She knew what she had to do, what she wanted to do. “You shouldn’t have tried to hide this from me, and you definitely shouldn’t have asked Eve to lie.”

“Sorry, pumpkin—” He hissed when Laz pushed the needle through his flesh again.

“Don’t be a baby,” Laz said. “You complained less when the fucker stuck you with a rusty piece of iron, and his buddies tried to eat you.”

Kyler grabbed for the edge of the counter.

Rocco slugged his brother in the shoulder. “Seriously?” His gaze sliced to Kyler. “There was no chance of them eating me—”

“I don’t think I want to know anymore,” she said, barely keeping the panic attack at bay.

Eve gave her a squeeze, and Kyler suddenly became aware of the way the other female was touching her. She stiffened, turning to Eve.

Her friend’s eyes widened, and she quickly dropped her arm. “Oh god, I’m so sorry, Ky. I just…it just seemed natural to put my arm around you.”

Kyler blinked over at her, stunned.

“Kyler?” Rocco said. “You okay?”

She nodded. “Yes…actually.” She smiled at Eve. The last thing she wanted was for her friend to feel bad for comforting her, and she tried to ignore the hope building inside her. She turned back to Rocco. “I didn’t notice.”

“Yeah?” Rocco was right there with her, because there was no missing the hope in his voice.

The idea of him being injured like this every night, because of her, was more than she could stand. They needed to mate, and the sooner, the better.

She looked up and Laz’s gaze was moving between Kyler and Eve, then back again. He scowled and shrugged. “Fuck if I know what everyone’s going on about. You don’t look alike at all. Roc?”

Roc did the same, his navy eyes moving between her and Eve. “Nah, don’t see it either, brother. I mean, besides the eye color.”

Everyone could see it. Everyone—except for Roc and Laz. It was an unexplainable phenomenon. She guessed their males saw them in a way that no one else did.

The looks on their faces as they tried to see the similarities were comical. Eve shook her head and chuckled, and despite everything that had just happened, and the life-altering decision Kyler had made tonight, she laughed as well, suddenly feeling a lot lighter.

Rocco watched her, his eyes alight with pleasure. And she loved it.

Loved that even if it was something as simple as seeing her smile and laugh, that she could give that to him.

Laz finished stitching him up, and he climbed off the bathroom counter.

Kyler looked up at him, so tall and strong and beautiful. She’d never wanted to be his mate more than in that moment.

“Come on, I’ll clean you up at our apartment.” Then she took his hand. Rocco’s gaze sliced down to her, and the pleasure in his eyes had skyrocketed. He didn’t squeeze her hand, not pushing, so she squeezed his, and his smile filled her chest with warmth.

“Lead the way, pumpkin.”

Chapter 18

Rocco stood on the roof of Vorena’s building, waiting. He would have gone inside with his brothers, but that would have thrown Willow under the bus, and the last thing the witch needed was to make Vorena an enemy. Vorena sure as fuck wouldn’t appreciate being lied to or fooled out of a vial of her blood.

But they needed to talk to her. The number of demons causing harm in the city was growing. If they were Vorena’s followers, he and his brothers needed to know. Her deal with Chaos was she kept her demons in line—or the knights did something about it.

Chaos walked out of the building below, Gunner and Kryos with him. They tugged off their shirts, their wings unfurling, and flew up to the roof, landing beside Rocco.

“Well?”

Kryos shuddered, and Gunner looked about ready to toss his cookies.

“We interrupted lunch,” Chaos said and curled his lip. “But she insists the demons causing trouble aren’t hers. I told her I knew she hadn’t sent them, because that would be breaking our deal…she sure as fuck didn’t like me implying any of her followers had gone rogue.”
