“Hey, sis.”

“Don’t ‘hey, sis’ me!”

“Huh?”

“Why are you being mean to my best friend?”

“I’m not being mean to her.”

“What would you call it, then?”

“Looking out for her.”

“Well, that’s not how she sees it.”

He sighed. “Does she know you’re calling?”

“No, and don’t tell her!”

“What do you want me to say?”

“I want you to say you’ll escort her to dinner with Matt and me.”

“When?”

“Tomorrow night.”

“On a Thursday?”

“Is that against your rules?”

“Very funny.”

“Say yes.”

“What if I’m busy?”

“You’re not. All you ever do is work. When’s the last time you went out on a date?”

He’d just taken a bite of his sandwich, and he practically choked on it. “None of your business, and if Morgan and I go, it isn’t a date.”

“Fine, but maybe it’s time I set you up with someone.”

“No!”

“Why not?”

Because I made a promise to Morgan. “I don’t have time to date.”

She laughed. “Like I said, you work too much.”

“Did you call just to harass me, because you’re ruining a perfectly good Italian sub?”

“I want you and Morgan to get along.”

“We do, mostly.”

“She’s only going to be here a little while longer, Gabe. Once she goes back to Michigan, we might not see her again for a long time.”
