She didn’t mention that she’d gone to the driving range with Jamie twice in the past week. She still had a lot to learn, but at least she was making progress.

He indicated that she should tee off first, but this time, he didn’t give her any instructions. She reminded herself to keep her head down and swing smoothly through the ball. Her worst nightmare would be missing it altogether. Luckily, that didn’t happen, and the ball landed on the fairway a respectable distance away.

“Good shot,” Bryce said as he moved up to the tee box.

She stood back and watched him tee up, admiring the flex of his arm muscles as he took a few practice swings. She’d thought he was handsome from the start, but now she’d describe him as beautiful, and not just physically. She’d seen him be vulnerable, affectionate, and generous. He was an excellent father despite being somewhat overprotective. She’d seen him interact with his family, and though he and Seb had their differences, she could tell how much he loved them.

He was a family man, a hard worker, and a passionate lover. He was tough on others but more so on himself. He could be intense, but when he directed that intensity toward her, there was nothing like it.

He took his shot, and her gaze followed the arc of the ball until it landed perfectly in the center of the fairway several yards past hers.

“Beautiful,” she said, referring to him and the shot.

Once they were back in the cart and driving away, he said, “I still can’t believe you did all this for me.”

“Why not?”

“Well, we haven’t exactly been close lately.”

She hadn’t expected to talk about their relationship yet, and she wasn’t sure how to respond.

“I’d like to rectify that,” he said once she’d parked the cart.

She shifted and looked him straight in the eye. “Me too.”

A smile spread across his gorgeous face, and she smiled too.

“I’ve missed you, Chloe.”

Oh, how she’d longed to hear him say that, among other things. “I missed you too. That’s partly why I did this, so we’d have a chance to be alone…to talk.”

“There’s so much I want to say to you.”

“I want to hear it all.”

He glanced back at the four women who were waiting at the first tee, the same women who’d been staring at them in the clubhouse.

“This probably isn’t the best place, though.”

“Don’t worry. My surprise doesn’t end here.”

“Oh yeah?”

“Um-hmm.”

“I can’t wait to find out what else you have planned.”

“I hope you’ll like it just as much as golfing.”

“I have a feeling I will.”

For the remaining holes, she tried to concentrate on her golf game, but honestly, she couldn’t wait to be alone with him. She got the impression that he felt the same, especially when he accused her of distracting him by looking so pretty in her golf outfit.

“I usually golf with men, and believe me, they aren’t nearly as pretty as you are,” he said after flubbing a shot near the green.

After that, most of his compliments were about her golf game, which was surprisingly good given how distracted she was. They’d resumed touching each other again, taking every opportunity to graze hands and sitting closer than necessary in the golf cart.

She had visions of pulling off into the trees and throwing herself at him, but she knew that wouldn’t be considered proper golf course etiquette. Besides, it wouldn’t be much longer before they were alone.
