She laughed. “Why are you looking like that? You’re the one who asked me!”
“I know what the fuck I asked.”
I crossed the kitchen, grabbed her around the waist and lifted her clean off the floor.
“Rome!” she squealed, coffee damn near sloshing out of the mug.
“Put that shit down before you burn both of us.”
She was laughing when I finally set her back on her feet.
Then her expression changed.
Her lips pressed together like something else had just occurred to her.
“But I have stipulations.”
Of course she did.
I leaned my hip against the counter and folded my arms. “Let’s hear ’em.”
She held up one finger. “I’m keeping my townhouse.”
“Fine.”
“For now,” she added quickly.
“Fine.”
Another finger. “I’m keeping my job.”
“Never asked you to quit.”
“And my money stays my money.”
“Fine.”
She narrowed her eyes. “You’re agreeing too fast.”
I shrugged. “Because none of this shit bothers me. Keep going.”
Her playful expression faded.
“Halo comes first.”
That one made me straighten.
“Always.”
Sol searched my face for a second before nodding.
“And marrying you doesn’t mean you get to start making every decision for me because you’re used to being in charge.”
Damn.
I rubbed my beard.
“That’s gonna be the hard one.”
