Elijah

"Welcome," Cian growls from the other side of the bars. The thick iron between us hums with magic. I walked into a trap, lured like a rabbit into a snare.

"All this for me, iron bars and magic wards to keep me locked up… seems like overkill."

"You are quite the skilled escape artist, Elijah, and I have no intention of ever letting you go."

"Cool, so do I get snacks or is this like a real prison situation?"

"That mouth of yours is going to get you into a-fucking-lot of trouble."

"I'm already locked up in your dungeon, how much worse can it really get?"

"Snack?" I ask again. Cian chuckles.

"Sweet or salty?" He asks to my utter surprise.

"Oh, salty. No. No. Sweet. Chocolate would be amazing."

"How long do you think it'll take for my alpha to rescue me?"

"Oh, you don't know… how sad for you."

"You are an offering, a trade from more power. Unfortunately for you, ex-alpha, he won't be getting that either."

Cian's lies hit their mark, attempting to crack my carefully built mask. I growl, not something I'd usually do when facing an alpha, but the bars between us offer the tiniest bit of safety.

I've been in love with my best friend turned Alpha for years… Derek loves me in his own way, and I can wait for him to realize I'm the one he wants by his side and in his bed. We'll run the pack together as a united front. That's the future I expect, and I'll be getting back to it as soon as I figure out how to get out of this cell.

Cian turns to leave. I've already been down here for two days, and hunger is gnawing at my insides. I shake the cell bars to get his attention, and he pauses for a moment.

"Hey," I yell. He doesn't stop walking as the heavy metal door slams behind him, leaving me alone in the dark, damp dungeon again.

The bars groan and echo under my anger, I lash out, hitting the bars until pain takes over. Resigned to my fate, I sit down a run through the days leading up to the mission Derek sent me on. I know Derek has always been power hungry, but would he really just hand me over? I think back through Derek's increasingly erratic behavior… all of it leading up to this moment, and wonder if my alpha was hiding things from me.

Cian

"He's fucking delusional. Derek handed him over, lied and sent him here on a fake mission to spy on me. So wrapped up in the piece of shit alpha he can't see he's being used."

It doesn't matter. I need Elijah to lure Derek into my trap. I'll be rid of Derek once and for all, and we can move on as a united pack once more.

Still, there is something about the way Elijah hides behind sarcastic remarks that concerns me. Has he gone his whole life loving a man who never returned his feelings?

Not the damn point…

I leave Elijah alone for longer than intended with the full moon in less than a week. I have things to attend to before our pack run.

"According to our inside man, Derek still thinks everything is going as planned. Should we remove a finger and deliver it to get the message across?"

The growl comes out before I can think better of it. Chris simply raises an eyebrow at me and changes the subject.

"Plans for the run? Bonfire, roasted meats and nudity sound good?"

Full moon runs are reserved for adult wolves, as the moon can send even an alpha into rut under the right conditions.
