“Are you giving up?”
He shakes his head and grins. “You look disappointed. Are you sure you don’t forgive us?”
I cross my arms and step back. “I still don’t forgive you.”
He nods and grabs my wrist, then leads me into Elijah’s room.
At least he doesn’t tie me up to keep me helpless. Unfortunately, he sandwiches me between them in bed, and Asher keeps his arm around me like a steel band, refusing to let me go.
I fight sleep for as long as I can.
Dread keeps me up as much as the need to run away.
I can’t face everyone at school. They saw too much. They know too much. And they’ll never let it go.
If Asher and Elijah mean that they’re sorry, I wonder what else they have planned. Bloody teeth aren’t enough to make me forgive them. I need more.
I have a feeling that something big is about to happen. I just don’t know what.
CHAPTER 53
ELIJAH
I stand at the foot of the bed, staring at Eden and Asher cuddled together as they sleep. Eden can act mad all she wants, but in her sleep, she clings to us as if she’s hoping we never leave her side. It took an effort to untangle myself from her and turn her over to Asher.
The king-size bed is too small for the three of us. I make a mental note to myself to find something larger.
I straighten my uniform and keep my steps light as I leave the bedroom. It’s early, and I don’t want to wake Eden. I’d prefer she gets some sleep while I check with Rome.
I check my phone for a message from him, once again finding nothing.
Elijah
Is the job done?
Rome’s response comes through immediately. The asshole waited for me to reach out to him.
Rome
It’s done. You owe me.
Slipping the phone back into my pocket, I raise my head and stop. A large man stands in the living room, his back to me. I recognize his suit, though.
“Father,” I say, straightening my back. “What are you doing here?”
He turns, facing me with a scowl. “You tell me, son. Why in the world would I drive three hours to come see you?”
“It could be for any number of reasons. Maybe you miss seeing my gorgeous face?” I smirk.
“How amusing,” he says, sarcasm dripping from every word. “Glad to see you have a sense of humor at a time like this. Did you think it was funny to sleep with her as well?”
“No,” I say, and square my shoulders.
The wrinkles on his forehead deepen. “For God’s sake, she’s your sister, Elijah.”
“Stepsister,” I say. “Big difference.”
“Big difference,” he growls. He takes a menacing step toward me. “You two grew up together. I don’t care if she’s not your blood. She’s still an Astar, and you’ve made her and our name into a mockery.”
