DAY 7 OF THE BET

Shoving my phone into my pocket, I widen my strides and follow Eden as she rushes down the hallway. I warned my brother this would happen, and he didn’t want to listen to me.

Secrets always come to light. Someone always fucking finds out.

I didn’t expect it to happen so soon, especially from a video that Elijah sent. Now the entire school has seen Eden taking two cocks at once. They’ve seen her face contorted in pleasure that was meant for Elijah and me only.

I want to beat every single person I pass.

They have the video.

They’re playing it.

They’re laughing.

I clench and unclench my fists.

Eden’s bag wheels behind her as she races down the hall and turns the corner. Everyone laughs at her as she passes, and she’s right back to being the butt of the joke.

“Who would have known the freak was a whore?” a guy says in a fit of laughter. It’s loud enough that both Eden and I hear him.

Eden ignores him and keeps walking.

I fucking can’t.

The tightly strung cord inside me snaps, and I grit my teeth. The sucker crumbles between them. The stick breaks in half, and I spit the candy out of my mouth. Once Eden is far enough away, I make my move.

I throw myself at him, my fist hooking into his jaw. The other fist connects in another hook, and he cries out as he falls backward. Blood gushes from his face, and he cups his nose, wailing like the little bitch he is.

I grab him by the collar of his uniform, then shove him backward into the wall.

Leaning down, I bare my teeth at him. “Call her a whore again, and I’ll cut out your tongue and feed it to the fucking dogs.”

His eyes widen. “E-Eli?”

“Wrong fucking brother.”

His tanned skin pales, leaving him white as a ghost.

“I-I’m sorry, Asher.” He swallows hard. “It was just a joke.”

“Just a joke,” I mutter. My fingers circle his throat, then squeeze.

Red tints his skin, and his eyes bulge as he stares at me, pleading for me to let go of him. I grind my teeth so hard they threaten to shatter any second.

“I’m just joking.” I drop my hand from him and take a step back. My lips curve into a humorless smile.

“You’re out of your fucking mind.” He coughs and sags against the wall, his hands going to his throat and landing on the red finger marks I left behind.

I glare at him and take another step back, torn between strangling him or catching up with Eden.

The latter wins, and I turn and sprint down the hall where Eden disappeared.

Punching the asshole didn’t help. Threatening him didn’t either. At this point, I want to burn the school down with everyone inside it, including my brother.

He took the one thing that I love from me, so I want to take everything away from him.

I shove the front door open and descend the stairs, two at a time. Eden’s black hair flutters in the wind, her bag dragging behind her as she races through the gardens toward the parking garage.
