Another tension-filled silence.

“He didn’t say anything, did he?” Elijah says, forcing his voice to be light and carefree.

But I hear the tension. The jealousy.

Welcome to the fucking club, brother. You don’t belong here.

The head between my legs says otherwise. My cock hardens as the fresh memory of Elijah eating her out plays in my mind. It was like watching myself from outside my body as he brought her pleasure. It was easy to think it was me. But the reminder that it wasn’t just pisses me off all over again.

“He didn’t say anything,” Eden finally says.

I suck on my candy harder and peek around the doorway.

I don’t know why it’s surprising that she wouldn’t tell him that I tested her loyalty. Not that I was testing anything other than the line she drew in the sand. That line is blurred and all the way fucked.

“Good.” Elijah smiles and holds up a bag of her clothes. “We’ll drop this off at the dorm, then leave.”

“Where are we going?”

“There’s a competition tonight.” He glances up with a smirk and meets my gaze. “There’s some unfinished business that needs to be handled, and I need your help.”

I don’t know what he has in store for her or if he’s bluffing, but either way, I’ll take care of the Walker brothers as I said I would. After Elijah showed me the picture that he received the other day, it’s been in the back of my mind.

The Walker brothers hit closer to home by vandalizing Eden’s car. She doesn’t know yet, and we don’t know how to tell her. That’ll be a later problem when we get to it.

Not only will the Walker brothers feel our wrath, but so will Rome. He’s been circling Eden a little too close for comfort.

I nod and leave to get everything ready for tonight.

This time, there will be a big bang.

CHAPTER 39

ELIJAH

NIGHT 6 OF THE BET

“I need you to do something for me,” I say.

Eden’s head turns toward me. The car fills with silence and tension so electric that it zaps along my arms.

I point at the Walker brothers’ red Mustang. “I need you to distract them for a little while. Can you do that?”

She tips her head to the side. “Why me? Why not you?”

I grin. “Because you’re a pretty face and a definite distraction.”

She bites her bottom lip and looks away, suddenly bashful. I grin.

“Do whatever it takes to keep their focus on you,” I say.

She nods and blows out a breath, then opens the door and exits the car. Asher and I watch as she strides toward the Mustang, her hands clenching into fists before her fingers splay.

She stops beside the Walker brothers’ car and bends to talk to the driver. After a moment, both brothers step out of the Mustang and circle her, their gazes dark and full of bad intentions.

Asher sits straighter and rolls his sucker more than normal, the candy clacking against the backs of his teeth.

“They won’t get far with anything they try with her,” I say. “She won’t allow it, and we’ll intervene if we need to.”
