Shit.

My throat clogs with thorny vines. No matter how many times I swallow, I can’t get rid of the feeling.

I’m alone with Asher. And I’m afraid I won’t behave with him, much like he won’t either. Because there’s nothing clean about this relationship or my feelings for him.

I want Asher. And if the incident that happened in the bathroom says anything, he may want me too.

Slowly, I turn to him.

Time to face the music.

CHAPTER 38

ASHER

DAY 6 OF THE BET

I glare at the door Elijah disappeared through without once looking back at me. But I know the motherfucker was rubbing it in my face that he’s with Eden.

That felt a little too fucking real.

Watching him kiss my girl was pure torture, but I’ve never been so turned on in my life until now.

“So you and Elijah, huh, little ghost?”

She lifts her chin. “That’s between Elijah and me.”

I shrug. “After that kiss in front of me, I disagree.”

“That wasn’t my fault.”

I grin. “You kissed him back and looked into my eyes.”

Her face tints pink, and she jerks her gaze away from me.

Checkmate.

I roll the sucker onto the other side of my mouth and drop my gaze to her hands. “Let’s get that taken care of.”

I stride down the hallway, not having to look back to ensure she’s following me. I can feel her, even with my back turned to her. Entering the bathroom, I flip on the light and dig out the first-aid kit.

Eden steps past me and looks lost as she glances around the room like it’s her prison cell.

“Sit on the edge of the tub.” I smirk at her. “Since that’s what you’re good at, right?”

Her face turns another shade of pink, and she glares at me before settling on the edge of the bathtub.

I expected her to say something back or insult me for bringing up what happened the other day. But she chooses silence and cutting looks that would wither any man but me.

I grab the supplies from the kit that Elijah packed with more than the standard items that it comes with. After multiple run-ins with the Walker brothers and their friends, we’ve learned to be prepared.

I crouch in front of Eden and gently take her hand. She’s stiff and holds her breath as I inspect the cuts. I grab the long tweezers and, bit by bit, I pull out the glass and turn her hand to catch any slivers I may have missed.

Once everything is cleared, I clean the wounds and use glue to piece the skin together. I lay her hand on her lap, then grab her other to do the same. After a while, she relaxes and lets out a shaky breath.

“Are you going to talk about it?” I say.

“About what?”
