I try my magic, I try to move the chair in front of her, but it doesn’t work. The powers fail me. Shock and confusion overwhelm me.

I see her hand fall into the pocket of her jacket and my heart sinks, all the way down to my stomach, and I swear I could vomit from the sight.

The metal glints as she maneuvers herself between two patrons, following Murphy to the back of the bar where a single bathroom is located.

She’s got a gun.

My voice is silenced as I try to call out her name. I can’t do it. Physically, I can’t do it, so I scramble to follow them.

I can’t interfere and it’s the most infuriating sensation. A panic comes over me as I can’t move. I can’t prevent her from doing this. What is this?

I can barely fucking breathe with the panic overwhelming me.

A voice, Lucifer’s voice, whispers at the shell of my ear, “You cannot stop the sins. It is her fate and you cannot interfere.”

“No,” I whisper into the dark. My warm breath turns to fog as I stand frozen.

“Let me go,” I command Lucifer. He can’t control me like this. Murphy is my kill!

Mine.

No one can take that from me!

“It’s not me. We do not have free will in this way. I couldn't stop those men from hurting you. We cannot stop when a soul has decided that they’re going to take the life of another,” Lucifer says.

“No,” I whisper although no one seems to hear me. No one stops me from following the two of them. But still, I can’t move.

The realization is damning with the chatter of the bar to my back and the still hall in front, with two shadows rounding a corner.

I try to scream out, but I can’t. No words appear. No one watches. No one saw her follow him, but I did.

The shadows tell the story of what happens next.

A gun is raised to the man’s back as he opens a door.

Bang.

Screams fill the hall from the bar at the sound of the shot.

The creak of a backdoor being opened is heard and she’s gone. She runs and I stand there numbly as a man grabs my shoulders and asks me if I’m okay.

Numbly, I hold him there, keeping him from going after Sabrina. Giving her time.

I shake my head, not daring to try to speak as tears spill.

“What happened?” he questions and tries to go ahead but I keep him there under the guise that I’m too shocked, to paralyzed to move. Too afraid.

Truth be told, I’m terrified.

Run, Sabrina. Run!

She can’t ruin her life because of me. Please. Run!
