I finally bottomed out after a few thrusts, and I swear I almost lost it right then. Especially when he tightened around me. I had to take a few breaths as he adjusted, and it wasn’t just for his benefit. I was not going to lose control and leave him with anything less than full satisfaction. Once I knew I wasn’t going to bust as soon as we started, I began to move.

He felt so good.

Every movement of our body brought more pleasure. Our lips and tongues tangled together as we moved. The small dorm room filled with moans and the smell of his lust and the smell of sex and it was overpowering and overwhelming. If I’d allowed myself to imagine this moment, it wouldn’t have lived up to what was actually happening. Nothing could ever live up to this.

I lost track of everything but pleasure. I lost track of everything but the sounds he was making and the feel of his sweaty chest sticking to mine. All that existed in the moment was the two of us. I felt his cock leaking sticky precum against my stomach, felt him tightening around me, and I knew he was close. I pulled myself up to where I was kneeling and pushed his legs against his chest. The change in angle blew my mind, and judging by the sounds he was making, he didn’t seem to mind it either.

I began to drive into him. Slow and steady might win the race, but this was much more fun.

“So close,” he moaned out as I plowed into him.

Close wasn’t good enough. I reached down between us and began to stroke him, matching the movement of my hand to my thrusts. It only took a few strokes before he shot over my fist, painting his chest. The way he tightened around me sent me over the edge. “Holy fuck,” I moaned out as I emptied into the condom.

When I finished, I collapsed against his chest. His legs fell against the mattress, and I spared half a thought to his ankle. If I were more clearheaded, I probably would have checked in on that. Instead, I just kissed him softly. We kissed for a few minutes before I pulled out and tossed the condom in the half-full trash can next to his bed.

I spent the rest of the day with Kieran. We ordered pizza for lunch, and I went downstairs to get it for us. We watched a movie.

It was the first time I’d spent any time with him that wasn’t about football or getting off, and yeah, that crush I had? It was getting bigger by the moment.

Chapter Fifteen

Kieran

Ididn’t get cleared to participate in practice until Wednesday.

I still showed up every day. I hobbled over to the weight training room and did a little bit of upper body and arms training. All of which had been approved by the trainer on the team, so long as I was being careful and wasn’t messing around and doing anything that could fuck up my ankle. I showed up to all the film study sessions, and I took notes on what our coaches were saying about the team we were playing that week.

According to Coach Erikkson, they had won the championship the year before. They were the team to beat in our division, and I wanted to do my part in beating them. I even went to practice and sat on the bench.

I noticed Evander stuck to me during all of it. He chose machines near me whenever he could. He sat next to me during film study. He came and sat with me on the bench in between drills. I knew why he was doing it. He was trying to protect me. It was sweet, in a weird kind of way. I didn’t need protection, but it was nice to know that someone was on my side.

Between him and Marlon, I was thinking he might have been right Sunday in my room. He might have been right about the fact that some people did want me on the team. I did have to wonder if he had said something to Marlon too, because when Evander wasn’t at my side during drills, Marlon was. I really hoped he hadn’t, because the last thing I needed was the rookie thinking that I was someone that needed protecting. I didn’t like anyone thinking that, but at least I talked to Evander outside of practice.

Even with Evander watching me like a hawk, I was nervous when I finally suited back up for practice on Wednesday.

Mostly, because I saw the way Willis and Reyes were looking at me in the locker room. While I’d been out, Willis had been getting all the first team reps at wide receiver two. He’d been doing pretty good too, but I saw some catches he should have been able to make. I would have been able to catch them, but I already had a feeling he wasn’t going to see it that way. If anything, being put back on the second team was going to piss him off.

I just hoped they weren’t going to cause any problems today at practice. I’d just got the all clear on my ankle, and I didn’t want to spend any more time off the field. I really didn’t want to miss this week’s game. Not when I knew there were people chomping at the bit to take my spot on the roster, and not when I knew the team we were going against was one of the best. Pretty sure if I made a few good plays against the previous year’s champions, then I wouldn’t have as many worries about holding on to my starting job.

I couldn’t deny that I was nervous though. And even if I tried, Evander yanked any chance of denial away from me as we walked out onto the field. He pulled me aside. “You okay?” he asked, his voice low enough that only I could hear it.

“Yeah.”

“Nervous?”

Right. He could smell that I was nervous. He was like a wolfy mood ring or some shit, and I wasn’t sure how much I liked it. On one hand, it was nice not having to pretend. It was nice to have someone I didn’t have to fake anything with. On the other hand, it might have been nice to have the choice.

“Little bit,” I admitted because what other choice did I have?

At least he didn’t try to hide the concern in his eyes. I think that might have pissed me off if he had, or if he’d looked at me with anything close to pity. He just nodded. “I’ll be close. I’ve got your back, okay?”

I knew he did. It was a strangely comforting thought, knowing that if shit went pear-shaped, at least I’d have him to help me back up.

It turned out that the worry was for nothing. Practice went smoothly, and I was starting to feel like an idiot having spent so long wondering if I should’ve come to Creelin in the first place. I still didn’t feel like I could breathe easy though. Maybe they were just going easy for a day or two, just to make sure that no one else noticed that they were fucking with me. Or maybe my injury had just been an accident.

I was torn on what to believe, but I was glad that practice was uneventful.

After practice, I knew I should get back to my room. I had homework to get on with. I had a chapter I needed to read for the next day. But I was hungry, and the idea of eating some microwave ramen noodles wasn’t all that appealing.
