“No!” Colin objected, stalling his hands. “You look so good in this! I promise not to tease you anymore.”
“Promise?” Alex said, one eyebrow raised.
Colin nodded. “You actually look sexy in it.”
Alexander smiled then. “Oh, do I?”
Colin nodded, biting his bottom lip.
At least we knew Colin was not lying. His emotions were definitely appreciating the way Alexander looked, and I had to agree with our human.
“I could eat you,” I winked.
“Me as well,” Harland grinned, snapping his fangs playfully.
“You can eat me later,” Alex said, trying to mask his smile. “We should get going.”
“Let’s check if you can leave the property before I call a cab. I should also check if my phone works,” Colin muttered, searching the room. He had not used his phone in a long time, according to him, but I knew it would be able to call out. We could feel the change in the air, the way our souls felt free for the first time since we got cursed. I knew it would not help Colin trust it, though, as he needed to see the proof for himself. So I kept my thoughts to myself as he turned on his phone, pleased to see it still had battery left.
We moved out of the mansion, walking the gravel stone path that led to—
“My car!” Colin exclaimed. “I’d completely forgotten I had it here!”
“Does that mean you will not call upon a car?” Alexander questioned, following Colin as he approached the car.
“I didn’t even lock it! I remember that now. I just closed it and then everything happened. The keys are even in here!”
Harland and I shared a look, but then we shrugged and moved to open the doors. It felt smooth and controlled, not at all like opening a door.
Colin was already sitting in the driver’s seat, smiling as he turned the key and the car started. Alex sat on the seat next to Colin, fumbling with the seatbelt. In fact, we all fumbled with them, making Colin snicker as he left the car to assist all of us. According to him, we were using too much force. I took it as a compliment to my strength.
Once we were all buckled in, Colin drove down the gravel road and we watched as the gate opened, allowing us to leave. I think we all held our breath as the car slowly drove outside the property. We were free. Like actually truly free.
Harland’s hand clutched mine and I watched as Alexander reached for Colin’s hand as well in front of us.
“We are finally free,” I whispered, wiping my eyes as the car continued down the road, taking us further away from the mansion.
“Finally,” Harland whispered, squeezing my hand.
Chapter Thirty
Harland
My butt was vibrating. It was the craziest thing! Sitting there, watching the world pass us by while Colin found the nearest park was… indescribable. I had not felt a part of this world for so many years, only watching from afar as we continued to keep track of the technology and wars around us. But this? I finally realized just how secluded we had been. When Colin turned and parked the car behind a few others, I was not ready to leave the car yet.
“Come now, Harland!” Jacob grinned, his excitement enough to lure me out of the vehicle. My hand was instantly grabbed by Jacob who hauled us over to an opening.
“This is a nature park,” Colin explained. “It doesn’t appear to be huge, but according to the map, it has several trails we can follow.”
“Parks are normally for dog and children walking, correct?” Alexander asked, looking about. There were no dogs and only one other couple that we could see, holding hands and smiling in the distance.
“Child walking?” Colin asked, looking adorably confused.
“Yes,” Alex nodded. “For their exercise.”
“Exercise,” Colin parroted.
Alexander nodded.
