Alexander squeezed my hand. “The others all left the mansion. We figure if they can make it work, then so will we.”

“Do you have any way of contacting them and asking? Also, who even owns this property? Will we be evicted now that you’re no longer prisoners here?”

“You ask too many headache inducing questions,” Jacob groaned. “Can we not just test if we can leave, and then deal with properties and what not?”

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, feeling like the biggest idiot. They’d been imprisoned here for over eight hundred years. Of course, they wanted to leave the grounds and see something new for a change. And here I was, holding them back.

“Come,” Alexander said softly. He led me outside the coop, closing the hatch behind us. Jacob and Harland joined us, all of them now touching me.

“We will not go far,” Harland assured me.

“And you will come with us,” Jacob said, grinning wide enough for his left fang to show.

“Any destination in mind?” I asked, dreading it, but I also felt excited to be there as they saw the changed world for the first time. Not just through a TV, but with their own eyes.

“I want to ride in a car!” Jacob exclaimed, clearly excited. “I have always wondered what it felt like.”

“Okay,” I agreed. “And where should this car take us?”

Harland kissed my cheek. “I would say to a restaurant or another date location, but we cannot eat with you. I fear it would put too much attention on us.”

“We could pick a museum? Or a mall, though that might be a tad too crowded for your first time out,” I said, thinking that maybe an art gallery would be the perfect thing for Harland to visit, but maybe it wouldn’t be for the other two. Dating three men was harder than I’d thought, but then again, I hadn’t truly thought anything through.

“What about a park?” Harland suggested. “I want to be out in the sun for as long as possible.”

“I would enjoy that,” Alexander smiled.

“Me as well,” Jacob grinned.

“So, we’re taking a cab to a park nearby? And then what, we have our fun and return here?” I couldn’t explain why I was so worried about leaving the mansion. I just had this sense of foreboding I couldn’t quite shake. But my men deserved to see the world again, and I wasn’t about to be the one denying them this. Not when I could feel their excitement and longing to leave.

They nodded.

And just then, we heard Jetty’s cry in the distance.

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Jacob

We found Jetty weeping next to the yellow roses, on his knees and crying out as if in great pain.

“Jetty?” Colin asked, tentatively approaching the crying brownie.

“I will not leave!” Jetty cried, fisting the very air like it had insulted him.

“Okay?” Colin began, looking at us with bewilderment. “No one is telling you to leave.”

Jetty looked up at Colin, eyes wide. “I do not have to leave?”

Colin shook his head, kneeling next to Jetty. “Is it because the blood vow is broken? Is your duty or whatever held you here gone?”

Jetty nodded, bottom lip trembling. “I can feel it, you know? That I am no longer tied here. But I do not wish to leave. This is my home.”

Colin nodded, eyes full of sympathy and understanding. “We haven’t figured out if we’re allowed to stay here or not, since we don’t own the property. But if we do somehow end up allowed to stay, you can remain as well. For as long as you wish.”

The brownie’s eyes were so filled with awe, that I found myself jealous for a second. Only we were allowed to look upon our human like that.

Colin shot me a quizzical look. Maybe he felt more than I realized from my emotions. Something I could definitely use to my benefit later. I smirked, already thinking dirty thoughts of my sexy human being shared between us. He would look so stunning with our marks on his pretty skin. Would he be able to handle all three of us feeding from him at once? What a beautiful thought.
