“What was your intention then?” I prodded.

He sighed, averting his gaze, “I missed Jacob and sort of took my longing for you out on him, and then I tried to show you how… virile, I am.”

I gaped at him, then threw my head back and laughed. “Oh my God! You did it to entice me into picking you?!”

He nodded, clearly ashamed. “When you were hurting instead… I just needed you gone so I made it worse.”

“It did hurt,” I admitted, no longer feeling like laughing. “I can’t even explain why it felt that way. Maybe because I knew I couldn’t be a part of what you three had. It felt like Jacob and I had started something together, only for me to realize I was fooling myself.”

“Hey,” he soothed, rubbing my arms. “You and I are bonded now, but we both feel things for the other two, and that’s fine.”

“Are you still going to be with them?” I asked.

He sighed. “I want to, but that is not fair on you.”

“Not when I can’t be with them, too,” I agreed.

“You can,” he began, growling low at himself. “If I am not there. You can. But do not tell me about it. I will fight them, Colin. I cannot control it.” His eyes flashed and it felt like Alexander the man was okay with it, but his monster was not.

I nodded. “Same goes with you.”

He nodded.

Deciding to change the subject, I asked, “You going to be fine here by yourself?” I got my chickens delivered this morning and had planned on being outside for most of the day.

He smiled knowingly. “Go and have fun with your new babies.”

I grinned. “They’re going to be so cute! I’ll show you them once the sun sets.”

“I cannot wait.” I felt contentment and excitement from him, which soothed my nerves. We were still getting to know one another, but because of our bond it felt as though we’d been together forever. I just had no idea what his hobbies were or what life was like for him before becoming a vampire. Luckily, we had time. Lots of it, too.

I left Alexander in my rooms, which I guessed were our rooms now. He preferred us staying there, away from the others. I knew he missed them, but it would be cruel of us being near them when they were hurting.

Sienna had left me alone all week, knowing Alexander was with me, which had been nice as well. I should’ve known she wouldn’t stay away for long though.

“Why?!” she demanded as soon as I stepped outside into the garden. She pointed towards my little area where more boxes littered the area.

I ignored her. “My chickens should’ve arrived this morning. Were they?”

“Yes,” she grumbled, following behind me. “Nasty creatures.”

“Hey, be nice,” I scolded. “They’ll be living here for many years to come.”

She grumbled something about Nicco cooking them, but I ignored her. It likely wasn’t fair to her, but I felt a tad irritated with the brownie. She’d given me books to read about my situation here, and with all the questions, but I would’ve loved to have been warned about the important stuff.

My chickens were already in the coop, looking at home. I ran over in my excitement, and was pleased when they didn’t startle. They were both ten weeks old and so damn adorable.

Sienna gave them a disgusted look before leaving me to bond with my two new chickens. This was just what I’d needed.

Chapter Twenty-Five

Harland

The world continued outside as I lay in bed, Jacob in my arms. We were both naked and sweaty, having spent hours loving one another, trying to mask our hurt. It was weird in the mansion now that Colin had chosen Alexander, but even more so when we now knew we would never be freed. My Jacob and I would remain here, in the mansion, for all eternity.

“What are you thinking about?” my lover asked, peppering kisses down my arm.

“How wonderfully gorgeous you looked, finding your pleasure on my cock,” I purred.
