Jacob released my lips grinning wickedly down at me. “I knew you would taste like the sweetest dessert.”
I was about to ask what he meant, but he captured my lips again, making me moan. His one hand grabbed my ass while the other cupped my cheek. I was truly fucked.
“I wish to devour you,” he rasped, kissing down my neck. “Your scent,” he sniffed, groaning. “Your damn scent is like a siren call to my monster.” Fear took hold, freezing me in place. He chuckled against my neck, grazing the skin with his teeth. “I will not taste you tonight, my sweet human. But I will be back tomorrow.”
His touch disappeared in an instant. I blinked my eyes open, searching the room.
Jacob was gone.
Chapter Nine
Colin
Touching my lips, I was reminded of how utterly wonderful it had felt kissing a man. Maybe this was what my life had needed. I was just too stubborn to see it. My purpose in life had been to provide the next sacrifice, marrying a woman and living happily ever after while my child would be raised for the task I was currently doing. When I became the sacrifice, I felt only relief. I knew I liked the look of men, but had never dared to do anything about it, blaming it on just being curious. The women I’d been with had been fun enough, but never had I ever felt even a smidgen of what Jacob had made me feel just minutes before. I wouldn’t have been happy with how my life was supposed to go. A wife I wouldn’t ever be able to love properly, and kids that would either become a sacrifice or see their sibling become one. I was now freed of that, and that was a gift I never expected to receive.
I was a dead man walking. There was no way Alexander and Harland would be okay with me kissing their lover, even if Jacob didn’t seem worried. I was worried. Jacob might not care enough about me to give it much thought, but I preferred to live. They couldn’t kill me, according to Jacob, but I very much doubted Alexander wouldn’t try until he succeeded. I knew by now that they could inflict pain on me, bad enough to make me pass out, if that was what Alexander was going to do to me….
Three loud knocks startled me out of my spiraling thoughts. “Food,” Nicco called from the other side. I hurried to answer, not even realizing it was dinner time. I had skipped lunch because Harland needed to feed, then fainted and got told what seemed like a bedtime story, only to be kissed so thoroughly I could’ve come in my pants from that alone.
I was starving.
Nicco had a trolley with him, plates with domes littering all available space on it and two bottles of liquid lay underneath it with one glass.
He rolled the trolley inside and then left again, not even saying goodbye.
I sat down on my small dining table and began to check the different plates. I had lasagna on one, chicken parm on another, and various appetizers. The bottles underneath were lemonade and extremely delicious looking.
Eating alone had always been something I hated, but I was allowed to use the internet. I picked out a podcast with video and sat down. I imagined I wasn’t alone but sat with friends instead; listening to them ramble about their lives in a world I no longer felt a part of.
After eating, I decided to shower. I was in no mood for a bath, figuring my fatigue from the feeding earlier would only be a nuisance. I had yet to order more clothes, but I could just put on another robe and go straight to bed. Tomorrow, I would spend the day in the garden, hiding away from the monsters, but for now I couldn’t do much else than rest.
Naked in front of the bathroom mirror, I took in my appearance. I was average looking, a little bigger in build because of the many years of farming. I had no clue why Jacob seemed interested in me when he had two gorgeous men already. I also needed to shave, but the others were clean shaven, so I sort of wanted to keep it just to differentiate myself from them even more. I didn’t want to fit in here. I was still human, not a monster.
I had to tell Jacob that I wasn’t interested in more than friendship with him tomorrow. This fear that loomed over me was suffocating. I couldn’t live like this forever, no matter how much I lusted after the man. At least there were no feelings involved. I barely knew the vampire. I think the sadness from knowing this couldn’t happen with us was because he was the first man I’d ever kissed and I desperately wanted more. It would have to wait, though. Perhaps if I ever got to leave the mansion in the future, I could find myself a nice husband. One who wouldn’t cheat on his lovers to be with me. One who wouldn’t smile with a fang showing on one side. One who didn’t entice me with a mix of danger.
I was so utterly fucked.
My shower was quick, the warm water only contributing to my exhaustion. I really needed some sleep. I hadn’t been able to sleep properly here, still waking at every little noise. But I believed my fatigue was bad enough to grant me at least four hours of combined rest tonight.
All but falling into bed, I succumbed to sleep within seconds, the warm duvet a comfort as my dreams began.
Sienna stared at me. “You have yet to order proper clothes.”
I sighed. “I know.”
She’d come in to escort me to breakfast. I’d opened the door in my robe and was still being scrutinized by her assessing gaze.
“I have ordered you new clothes,” she announced, throwing both hands up. Confetti now littered the hallway. “I knew you would fail to obtain them yourself. You may thank me.”
“Thank you?” I said, rubbing my eyes.
“It was my pleasure.”
“Wait,” I began, fully awake now. “How did you get my measurements?”
“Oh, I measured you while you slept.”
“What?!” The sound I made might as well have been a shriek.
