“Finley . . .”

I roll my eyes. “Don’t use your father voice on me.” I turn in his arms. “It doesn’t scare me as much as it does Asa.” He tries to hide a smirk. “You have a different set of voices that you use with me, and news flash, none of them are scary. The irritated one is my favorite, I think. I do my best to make sure you’re always irritated.”

He grips my hip as he throws his head back and laughs. His neck is open for me to get on my tippy-toes and kiss him on the side.

“Don’t do that,” he says, his voice thick.

My body locks. “Okay.” I avoid looking at him, my pulse speeding up as I turn. I fold the towel in my hands to have something to do and put it on the counter. I try not to let the hurt set in.

“Finley.” I hum a response. “Look at me.”

“It’s fine,” I duck under his arm. “I’m sorry.” I move to the bedroom, looking for my shorts. I want to get the fuck out of here as fast as I can.

“Finley,” he says again, still soft. I pick up my top and then find my shorts.

“I’m hungry.” I ignore the way my stomach clenches.

“Finley,” he repeats my name again, just like the last two times. I finally look up at him. “I think you misunderstood what I was saying when I said, ‘Don’t do that.’”

“It’s fine. Are you not hungry?” I slip on the shorts without the panties. “I feel like I just did a two-hour workout session. I’m going to go and warm up the pizza.” I step toward the door.

He closes the distance between us, blocking my path. I could get around him, but it would be awkward. So I just stand there as if my feet were poured into cement boots.

“The reason I said, ‘Don’t do that’. . .” His hands come up to rest against my cheeks, but I just stare at his chest. “It’s because the minute you touch me, I forget everything. I was less than a split second away from placing you on that counter and fucking you raw.”

“Oh.” I bite my lower lip to stop smiling like a kid on Christmas Day.

“Yeah, oh.” I peek up to find him smirking. He kisses me gently on the lips. “You kiss me when you want to kiss me, where you want to kiss me. Certain places love your mouth.” He winks at me.

I lean back, and now I’m the one bursting out laughing.

He tilts my head to the side and bends to kiss my neck in the exact spot I kissed his, and my body comes alive. “You see how much it affects you?”

“I’ve never—” I start to say. “It’s never gotten to me before.” I wrap my hands around his wrists. “I know it might seem like I’m experienced because I was married”—I look down—“but that isn’t the case.”

“So we’re going to have a conversation about our exes.” He lets go of my face, and my hands fall to my sides. He turns and grabs his shorts, putting them on and then sliding his hand into mine to pull me out of the room. “Let’s talk while we eat. Then after that, we’re going back to bed.” I follow him down the stairs. “Or the couch.” He looks over his shoulder. “We could actually do both.” I can’t help but giggle. He stops on the step and turns to face me. “I like how that sounds. You don’t do it enough.”

“I mean, if you stop annoying me so much, I might laugh more,” I tease.

He turns and continues to the kitchen.

He puts his hand on top of the pizza box. “It’s still warm,” he says as I pull out a stool.

“Wow, that doesn’t speak well of you if the pizza didn’t even get cold.” He glares, and I laugh. “It should be ice-cold.”

“It’s not my fault that the moment I sank my cock into you, it was just too much for me.”

I point at him as he gets two plates out of the cupboard. “That’s a good comeback, very good.”

“Glad you like it, baby.” He hands me a plate and opens the box.

“I don’t need a plate.” I rip a piece out and take a bite. “So, let’s talk.”

“Okay.” He takes his own piece and forgoes the plate too. “I don’t want you to think I sleep around.”

I raise my eyebrows. “That’s what I was going to say.” I swallow. “You’re like the third guy I’ve ever slept with.”

“You don’t have to say that.”
