“Lord hammercy. I appreciate you so much, Meadow, but this is a lot of work.” She fanned herself.

“I appreciate you too, Miss Nette. It’ll get easier the more we do it.”

My phone rang, and when I saw the contact name, I shook my head. I silenced the call and instructed Miss Nette to begin the next set of the current exercise. Instead of taking the hint, Platinum called me three more times.

“Who is that calling you, baby?”

“A menace I can’t get rid of apparently.”

“Take the call. I promise I’ll do the exercises right.”

“No, ma’am. It’s been months since I’ve seen you. I’m going to give you my full attention until the session is over. This pest can wait.”

“If you say so,” she hummed. She stood up and began her leg exercises. She walked heel to toe in a straight line across the living room. Then she did leg raises, leg swings, and ended with knee extensions.

Once the last exercise was complete, I checked her vitals once more and logged everything in her chart on the iPad. As I wrapped up the session, my phone dinged in my hand. Of course it was a text from Platinum.

Platinum:

Do you want me to meet your client or wait till you come outside?

My eyes bulged in shock. I quickly typed a response.

ME:

??? Platinum be so fucking fr. You’re not outside.

Platinum:

I told you to stop calling me Platinum. To you, I’m Porter. You ignored my calls, so I had to get your attention somehow. Now, do you want me to knock on Miss Nette’s door or wait outside?

ME:

?????? How tf do you know my client’s name? You really break all the fucking rules.

Platinum:

For you I’d break laws. I needed to find you and your folks up at the HQ were easy to persuade with the right amount of money.

I put my phone in my pocket and smiled to hide the panic.

“I’ll see you on Wednesday, Miss Nette.”

“Okay, baby. Before you go, tell the fine man outside my house I said hello.”

“Ma’am?”

“You heard me. I saw his fancy truck pull up, and he’s been standing outside waiting on you for about fifteen minutes. I might be old, but I’m observant, Meadow. The love bug bit y’all, and you’re running from it. Go on and hear him out, chile. And talk loud enough for me to listen. I missed my noon stories today. This live episode will get me right.”

I couldn’t help but toss my head back with a hearty laugh. “You’re hilarious, Miss Nette. I got you, though.”

“You know I love you, baby girl. However, make sure you don’t let no more random men pull up to my home.”

“Yes, ma’am. It won’t happen again.”

“Good. Be safe and let me know if you need the old shotgun I keep in my bedroom.”

“No, ma’am. We don’t need any guns.”
