I’ll break his face.

I sit forward in the chair.

I swear to…

“You said there were pictures of them,” Star says, turning back to the screen.

“There should be. I hope so.” He scrolls. Then his face lights up. “Here’s one of us. We were on the other side of the hall from the Bridge bunch, so I need to scroll further.”

She gives the smallest of smiles. “It feels like another lifetime ago. I wonder why I didn’t recognize him.”

“After seeing him for five minutes at a function with easily a hundred and fifty other people?” Jett tells her. “You’d need a photographic memory.”

“Here’s another of us.” His voice goes soft. “Look at that. We made such a good couple, didn’t we? We were…we’re good together, Star.”

I’m going to break his hand if he doesn’t start looking for the Bridge bunch.

“We did.” Star nods and smiles.

“Here it is!” Jett’s shout makes us both jump.

Star grabs the edge of the laptop.

“It’s him.” She says it through her fingers. “Oh, my god. That’s him.” She turns around and finds me, and her eyes are enormous. “That’s the male, Flint. It’s him.”

“He ran the department.” Jett squints at the screen. “That’s all I’ve got. I don’t remember his name. I’m sorry.”

I’m up and across the room. I lean over Star’s shoulder.

The photograph is a group shot at a round table, and the male is at the head of it. Dark hair, graying at the sides. Middle-aged with heavy brows. He’s looking straight down the lens with a glass in his hand and a tight smile.

“Can you zoom in on him?”

Jett does until his face fills the screen. It’s clear with good light.

I hold my phone up and take a picture of the screen, then another, and send the best one to Magma.

I need a name urgently.

“Flint has connections,” Star says to Jett. “People who can help us find him.”

“That’s great. That’s really great.” Jett looks up at me. “What do you do, Flint?”

I know Jett’s type. He’ll decide who I am based on what I do.

“I’m in security.”

“Oh…um…interesting.”

Yep, he’s not impressed.

Prick.

“Did you send it?” he asks.

I nod.

“They’ll be able to identify him from just a photograph?” He doesn’t look like he believes it.
