A sheen of sweat broke across our bodies, and Archer relented his casually submissive posture. He gripped my ass and urged me on. He watched with an expression of absolute awe and reverie as our rhythm increased and I whimpered, feeling my orgasm rising once more.

My pace grew wild and desperate to match the sounds emerging from my mouth. My skin was electric. My muscles tight with anticipation as the pleasure grew. Soon, we were frantic and tangled, bodies sweaty and gliding, colliding.

My climax stole my breath and sent me soaring toward the stars. I felt Archer tense and still as he followed immediately behind.

I’d never experienced such bliss, such ecstasy. Not like this. And I knew it was so much more than the way our bodies were made for one another. It was the man, perfectly designed to hold my heart.

Archer disposed of the condom and returned to me, pulling me tight to his chest and peppering me with kisses and affirmations.

I wasn’t just falling for Archer. I was irrevocably in love.

Chapter 33

Archer

The alarm shrieked through the cottage at exactly 2:17 AM.

My eyes snapped open, training kicking in before conscious thought. Strobe lights flashed through the window in harsh white bursts, turning the room into a chaotic nightmare.

I’d fallen asleep.

Shit!

Harper’s warm, naked body pressed against my chest, still and rigid with fear. “What’s happening?”

“I don’t know.” I got up and grabbed my boxer briefs and phone.

Then the windows exploded.

Glass crashed outside the bedroom door. In the living room and kitchen. One room, then another.

Harper sat up and shrieked.

I shoved my legs into pants and pulled my sidearm from the nightstand drawer.

Something thumped against the window above the bed, and the glass spider-webbed, cracks racing across the surface as something hit it from outside.

Beneath it all was the sound of music.

Harper’s voice, amplified and distorted, blaring from somewhere outside.

I’d break down walls for you, anything to get to you, I need you.

“Stay here.”

Harper’s eyes were wide with terror.

Everything inside me demanded I stay and protect her with my body. With my life. But training demanded an assessment of the situation. Doing nothing was too often an unfortunate final move.

“Archer, don’t—”

I kissed her head and set a palm against her cheek. “I will be okay. I need to know what’s happening. Call the sheriff’s department.”

Then I was in motion.

I yanked open the bedroom door and sprinted through the cottage. Glass crunched beneath my bare feet as I reached the other rooms. Strobe lights distorted the scene, creating a horrific funhouse feel.

The flashes were disorienting, stealing my sight in quick alternating beats. A flash of the living room. Darkness. A flash of the kitchen. Darkness.
