His lips quirked as he bumped me with his shoulder. “You mean, you were a raving bitch and wouldn’t talk to anyone. And if they deigned to try, you would shut them down so fast that they regretted trying.”

“Yeah, that.”

I’d been really fucked up after Sonja had passed.

To the point where it’d taken me a long time after I got my shit together to build relationships again.

The only ones who’d stayed with me the entire way had been my mom and dad, and Sonja’s family. Hell, even Benedict had helped in his own way.

“Anyway, I don’t know what’s going on, but I don’t like it,” I admitted. “That reporter is finding stuff that even Apollo hasn’t shared with us.” I paused. “What I do know is that I’m not super interested in having my whole life story shared for everyone to see.”

“I’m sure that Court has already asked Apollo to look into it. He has more skeletons than you do, and I’m sure he’s really tired of seeing his past shoved into his face.”

I glanced over my shoulder at Court, who was in a suit and tie that looked devastating, and caught his eyes already on me.

I gave him a small smile, which he returned with a wink, and turned back around.

The rest of the Dixie Wardens were there, too.

Though this funeral wasn’t anywhere near as devastating as Koen’s had been.

There wasn’t a single wet eye in the house.

It was crazy comparing the two.

Everyone that was here seemed like they had some sort of business connection to her.

Or sexual.

I saw several of her past conquests in the crowd, including Chris.

Chris also had his eyes on me, and I kept slumping lower and lower in my chair to use Beau’s body as a shield so he couldn’t look directly at me.

“Why are you slumped down so far?” Lysander asked.

I looked at Lysander, the baby of the Vanderbilt family, and said, “Because some weirdo won’t stop looking at me.”

“You think your boyfriend is a weirdo?” Lysander questioned.

I rolled my eyes. “No. The other guy. Four rows back and in the corner by the door. Black hair and blue suit.”

Lysander didn’t bother looking.

He knew how to be circumspect.

“The one that’s been telling everyone in town that you’re cheating on him?”

I gasped and leaned forward. “What?”

“Shhh,” someone said from behind us.

I glared over my shoulder at Denver.

I would’ve flipped him off had it been appropriate.

His eyes sparkled, but his face remained stoic.

I leaned farther into Lysander, who looked at me with amused laughter in his eyes as well. He was keeping the smile off his face.
