“You going to come for me, baby?” he asked.

Yes, yes I was.

“Yes,” I hissed. “So close.”

He didn’t stop, didn’t slow down, didn’t change a thing.

He kept the exact pace, the exact depth, and the exact angle.

Which was why I came on a scream short moments later.

“Court!” I cried out, unable to stop myself.

My throat burned from the cry I’d let out.

Court grunted, stiffened, then fell to his elbows on top of me, fucking his orgasm into me.

“So tight,” he ground out as he finally let himself go.

I felt the hot pulses of his heat filling me, his breathing changed, and then he was collapsing on top of me.

I couldn’t breathe.

But who needed to breathe, anyway?

Death by smothering after the best sex of your life seemed like the best way in the world to go.

Twenty-Four

Being a man is hard. What do you mean I need to check that noise? I’m scared, too.

—Text from Shaw to Court

Court

The morning was gone by the time that we came up for air hours later.

I’d missed several meetings, and I had to message my assistant to let her know that I was “sick” and wouldn’t be making it in today. I’d do what I could online from home.

She’d sent back a message letting me know that she’d rescheduled everything before I’d missed anything, assuming that I wouldn’t be able to make them thanks to what had happened.

When I’d asked what she meant by “what happened,” she sent a news article and said that I might want to check the news.

I was sipping coffee when I pulled up the article.

My eyes bugged out when I saw what was going on.

My drink was paused halfway to my mouth when Charleigh came in and said, “Who died?”

I looked at her with wide eyes and said, “Seraphina.”

Her mouth fell open. “What?”

“Seraphina. She died. Of alcohol-related complications yesterday,” he said. “Black got her to the emergency room after she was arrested, realizing that there was something really wrong with her. When he got her there, he left to respond to another call. When he got back, it was to find her dead.”

“Holy shit.” She gasped. “What the hell?”

I went back to the messages that I’d ignored to text my assistant and realized that I’d missed ones from Boone, Shaw, Beau, Beau’s wife, Magnolia, Beau’s brother, Lysander, Beau’s dad, Benedict, and several more.
