The men got back to work, but I got curious and walked to the wall of windows and looked down into the parking garage.

There were several people down there, one of which was a news van pointed at something in the garage that was likely drawing the attention.

I pulled up the cameras on the conference room television like I’d seen Court do when I’d told him what the Cottonwoods said.

The cameras were all over the parking garage, but the one I was most interested in was the one that was covering the employee parking spots.

“Hope you have good insurance, Court,” I mumbled.

A big body came to stand beside me.

Court grumbled as he saw Seraphina’s car door being pushed into his truck door.

Every time Seraphina stood up, she’d stumble and fall back into her car seat. As she did, the door would slam open wide and ding Court’s door.

She kept doing it, too, making a damn fool of herself.

Security was there as well, not getting close, but still taking every bit of it in.

Seraphina was such a freakin’ embarrassment.

“Wonder how long she’s been out there?” I wondered.

“Probably since she went to lunch,” Court guessed. “She always drinks with her lunch.”

“You mean, she sometimes eats with her booze at lunch?”

He made a vulgar gesture, and I covered my vagina. “I need a break!”

He winked. “Later then.”

“So I take it this isn’t fake anymore?”

Noe.

My face flamed as I realized that we weren’t alone.

Hadn’t been alone for a while.

People that I’d known were in the room and I’d just outed myself.

“I’m not sure we were ever fake anything,” Court said, his eyes on me for a long moment. “And it hasn’t been for a really long time.”

He’d been my bodyguard at one point in time after some shit had gone down with Birdee. I’d both loved and hated it with equal measure.

Having his undivided attention for days on end had changed my brain chemistry.

It’d also opened me up to the realization that Court would require me to give everything if we’d ever gone any further than the sniping at each other stage. He would expect full transparency. He wouldn’t allow me to use my prickliness to keep people away. He would demand it all and I’d give it to him.

At the time, I hadn’t been ready.

Neither had he.

But now…who knows.

We’d have to survive the Seraphina thing first.

Black finally arrived and drove right up to Seraphina’s vehicle and blocked it in.
