“What is this forensic audit going to do?” Seraphina asked.

Did she sound hesitant?

“The company will do a deep dive into every expenditure over the last fifteen years. We’re going to cut the fat.” Court crossed his arms over his chest. “That means no more private chartered planes. No more company paying for your car—unless you’re on official company time. No more allowing other people to drive the company car, and use the company credit card to fill up on fuel.”

Court went down the list, listing off more and more that he was going to do.

By the end of the meeting, the board was on Court’s side.

Benedict looked pissed.

But Seraphina? She looked like she was ready to set the world on fire.

It was the best feeling in the world, walking out of that boardroom meeting.

“That was fantastic.” I clapped.

I wasn’t usually a happy-go-lucky person.

I showed happiness, sure.

But I didn’t jump up and down with glee like I was doing right then.

“I know,” Beau’s eyes sparkled. “I should’ve done this years ago.”

I bumped into him with my shoulder. “So…what’s next?”

Court laid it out, concisely and wholly. He hid nothing.

“I’m going to find out what she’s spending. Get rid of her avenues of getting that money. No more company card. No more catered food. No more fuckin’ balls with her hair, nails and shoes paid for. She’s going to get the percentage that she’s allotted and that’s it.”

I fist pumped.

Beau messed up my hair.

I didn’t bother to fix the lopsided bun.

Instead, I named off a few suggestions of my own.

“I think we should upgrade security at the headquarters for both teams,” I suggested. “Also, I think we should get a private investigator set out on her. I think we need to know what she’s doing and when.”

Court looked thoughtful. “I think that’s a great idea.”

Seraphina was a nightmare to work with.

Benedict was little better, but at least he didn’t have a vendetta to ruin me.

He looked tired every time I saw him, and each time it got worse and worse. Like he was having to deal with Seraphina’s shit and regretting it.

But, according to Beau, Benedict was responsible for Seraphina’s attitude.
