“That’s so,” I apologized. “We’re just here to get my things.”

Throughout the whole entire speech that I’d given, Court hadn’t said a word.

But, he hadn’t needed to.

His frown was ferocious, and it was clear that he would not allow any argument.

“Well,” Nicole said, “I’m really sad to see you go. Potlucks won’t be the same!”

I’d always cooked my own food for potlucks.

I didn’t go out to eat.

Ever.

I’d learned at an early age the value of cooking for yourself, and hadn’t strayed from that thought process in the years that I’d been on my own.

One did not buy bread when you could make it.

I handed the sheet over to Nicole, then cleared my throat before saying, “This way. My desk is right outside of Chris’s office.”

Right in his line of sight, so he could stare at me creepily anytime that he wanted to.

Court let me go, but stuck close, the box in his hand keeping distance between himself and Chris who followed much closer than he should have.

Court set the box on top of my desk and started to dump things inside that looked personal.

I did the same, and Chris stood there fuming, watching it happen.

“You’ll have to leave your computer.”

“Negative.” I snorted. “This is my computer.”

“That has company information on it,” Chris countered.

I shrugged. “I’ll delete everything.”

“You’ll leave it…”

“She’ll take it with her, and that’s final,” Court finally spoke. “Don’t call her ever again.”

Chris looked ready to argue, but I’d packed my things and was ready to go.

“I’m ready,” I said.

I picked the box up before Court could.

Nicole waved at me sadly as she watched us go, and the entire time, Chris dogged our every step.

Luckily, Court stayed at my back and didn’t remove himself from that spot until I was safely locked inside the truck.

Chris stood at the door staring at me so directly that I was having a hard time keeping my eyes off him.

Court got into the truck just as we saw a fancy ass car pull into the lot.

“Is that…”

“Seraphina.” I nodded once. “Yes.”
