“Thank you,” Lennox said and started away. She stopped suddenly, turned back, and grabbed a large knife off the counter. The cook looked like he was about to protest but saw the look in her eye and said nothing.

Lennox headed down the hall. That monster was not going to get away. She would get answers if it was the last thing she ever did.

CHAPTER FORTY-THREE

“You hold on to Fisher,” Dragan said. “I’m going after Georgiou.”

“Fuck that,” Valardi shot back. “You’re gonna need all the help you can with Georgiou’s security.”

He wasn't wrong.

Dragan looked down at Fisher, who was just beginning to push himself off the floor, one hand pressed protectively against his throat.

“What do you want me to do with him?” Dragan asked into the comms.

“Leave him to me,” Ryker answered. “I'll be there in two.”

“Copy.”

Dragan didn't spare Fisher another glance.

He was no longer the objective.

Georgiou was.

Rushing past the thick curtain, he took the stairs two at a time, shouldering through the crowd without apology. An older man in a tuxedo stumbled into his path.

“Watch where you're—”

Dragan shoved him aside without breaking stride.

“There.” Valardi pointed toward the far side of the room.

Konstantinos Georgiou was making his way to an exit.

For the first time, Dragan got a clear look at him.

Mid-fifties. Thick silver hair. Immaculate tuxedo. The kind of man who'd spent a lifetime buying other people to solve his problems.

He disappeared through a door beside the stage.

“Shit.”

Dragan accelerated.

The stage was already descending into chaos.

“We can't get everyone out in time,” Flynn said over the comms.

“He's right,” Cash agreed. “There are too many people to sneak everyone out. A mass exodus will cause a commotion.”

“Maybe a commotion is exactly what we need,” Jake replied.

“I like the way you think,” Hawk said.

An instant later, the shrill scream of the fire alarm ripped through the building.

The sound echoed off the marble floors and vaulted ceiling, instantly drowning any conversation.
