Warm arms gathered me close, and he leaned forward to kiss me. “I am greedy enough to want you again,” he said, smiling against my lips.

“You must never tire.”

“Not where you’re concerned.” He pulled me to my feet and wrapped me in a towel, trapping me between the fabric and his body. His lips crushed mine as he swiped up my legs and carried me to the bed, where he threw back the bedding.

My back sank into the soft mattress as he gently laid me down and glided his hand along the curve of my hip.

“I will be taking you at least once more tonight, so don’t bother with night clothes.”

Smiling, I slid the damp towel from beneath me, tossing it onto the floor. “And if I’m sleeping when you feel inspired to do so?”

“I’ll be sure to rouse you first.”

I chuckled as he slid the silk sheets up onto my body and stretched, feeling far more relaxed than when we’d first arrived.

“Are you hungry?” he asked, kissing my forehead.

My stomach curled in response, starvation clawing at my insides. “Famished.”

“I’ll bring you something to eat. In the meantime, get some rest.” He ran his teeth across my throat and nipped at my jaw. “You’ll need it.”

“Rykaia will be disappointed.”

“Rykaia will understand.”

When he lifted away from me, those warm, infernal eyes staring back at me, a wave of something I didn’t quite recognize at first washed over me. Fear. The fear of losing him again. Of never feeling such contentment after tonight.

I curled my fingers into his biceps planted at either side of me, desperate to keep him there. Ridiculous, seeing as we were safe. For the moment, anyway. The anxious thoughts refused to subside, though. “Do you think they’ll find us here?”

“Eventually, yes.” He pushed a stray, damp hair from my face. “But we’ll try to be ready when they do.”

“I think we should train again. I want to practice wielding my glyphs.”

He leaned forward to kiss my forehead. “In the morning. Tonight is for rest.”

“And pleasure, I presume.”

“Yes.”

“Training could be pleasurable, you know.”

His brows furrowed, eyes lost in thought for a moment. “Absolutely not.”

“Fine. Tomorrow.” I ran my thumb across his lips. “How are you so calm and collected about all of this?”

“I’m far from calm, but you silence the noise. ” Another kiss to my lips, and he straightened. “I’ll be back.”

“I’ll be here.”

He lingered a moment longer, a half-smile pulling at the corner of his lips.

“What is it?”

Pushing another wet strand of hair from my face, he stared down at me. “Seeing you here. In my bed. Safe. Perhaps the gods don’t loathe me, after all.”

“Don’t get too comfortable in that thought. I am a professional bed cover thief.”

His lips twitched. “That sounds dangerous.”
