It took all his self-control not to just plunge deep, but this was Rona. His Rona. And she deserved the effort. Even if it killed him.

She moaned as she dug her nails into his back before sliding her hands down to his rear. A guttural sound of appreciation escaped her as she clasped his backside. He smiled in glorious agony as she tried to pull him toward her. To make him enter her fully.

So impatient.

He clenched his thigh muscles and refused to comply.

Rona groaned before bringing her legs up to clamp around him.

They were in a war of wills. Bain desperate to make this feeling last a lifetime. Rona wanting him now. He could hardly think with needing her. Instinct was telling him he had to move slow so that he’d make her just as addicted to him as he was to her. But it was all too much. With a tortured moan, he entered her fully.

It was agony and ecstasy and everything in between.

She gasped and lifted her hips, forcing him deeper. Bain supported his weight on his arms so he could look down at her. At them together.

The sight stole his breath and his reason.

Rona.

His Rona.

A fierce determination overtook him as he drank in her flushed face, with its kiss-swollen lips and lust-dazed eyes.

He was keeping her.

She was his.

With effort, Rona lifted her eyelids to look up at him and all thought fled Bain’s mind. The world around them disappeared. All that remained was Rona.

As he captured her gaze with his, Bain began to move.

This was what he’d been searching for since he’d first discovered girls.

It’d been with Rona all along.

CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN

Well, she’d done it.

She’d had sex with Bain.

And he hadn’t run from her bed as soon as he’d finished. Instead, he’d held her close, talked about everything and nothing, and then made love to her again. Before apologizing for rushing everything,` and promising to do better next time.

Next time…

Rona had thought he’d done pretty well this time, but whatever. She wasn’t sure what to make of his promises or his behavior. He wasn’t acting like a man who had one foot out the door. And it was confusing because everything inside of her was on alert, ready for him to leave. Yet, he showed no signs of doing so. She wasn’t sure how long this behavior would last, or if she could trust it, but it was very disconcerting.

“Why do you keep looking at me like I’m about to jump out of a moving truck?” Bain asked as he drove her to the hotel later that afternoon. “I’m the one driving, so that would be stupid.”

“I’m just trying to figure out what’s happening here,” she said honestly.

“It’s no big secret, Rona,” he said with a devilish smile. “You think I’m getting ready to bolt and I think I’ve started my first, and hopefully last, relationship.” He thought about that for a second. “To clarify, I mean last because I don’t want anyone after you.” He frowned. “Not that you’ve put me off women, or anything like that. I just mean, I’m keeping you.” He smiled with satisfaction, clearly believing he made sense.

Which he didn’t. “You think we’re in a relationship? I only asked for a week.”

“Aye,” he said sagely. “Because you think that’s all I can manage, but you’re wrong. I am totally ready for a relationship.”

“Really? You’ve had commitment issues since you were a teen,” Rona pointed out.
