I waved as I watched her run toward the door. And I couldn’t help but smile.

I knew Jovi would be happy that she was there.

I just hoped her grumpy brother would be happy, too.

Even with the time difference, I still woke up before the sun rose. Cutler said he’d heard from someone that my mother had gotten on a plane to come here last night, but he didn’t give me any details.

He just said that he was fairly certain she was going to be here.

We didn’t say anything to Jovi, because she was having a great time last night, and I just wanted it to continue.

But I also didn’t sit down with her after dinner and prepare her for disappointment like I’d planned to do, because Cutler felt confident, so I was going to hold off. The guy had a lot of friends, and it sounded like he’d had someone check on her.

My phone vibrated on my nightstand, and I reached for it.

Cannon

You up?

I laughed. The dude just always seemed to know when I was worried about something. But he also had a big week coming up, so his nerves were probably working overtime.

Yes. Couldn’t sleep. What are you doing up?

Cannon

Too much shit on my mind. You want coffee?

That would be great.

Cannon

Good. I’m outside your room with two coffees. I knew you’d be up worrying about today going smoothly. Open the door, asshole.

I chuckled and got out of bed, then made my way to the door and pulled it open.

“Morning, sunshine,” he called out as he strolled past me and tossed his cowboy hat on the dresser. He set the two coffees on the little table in the corner.

“I need to brush my teeth.”

“Yeah, you do, dragon breath.” He snorted.

I walked to the bathroom and splashed some water on my face and brushed my teeth. I pulled a tee over my head as I returned to the room, since I was only wearing my navy joggers.

I sat in the chair across from him, looking out at the city. The sidewalk was quiet, as it was the weekend and the sun was barely up, with very few people outside this early in the morning.

“Thanks for the coffee.” I reached for the infamous white-and-green cup.

“I knew you’d be up, you big worrywart.”

I rolled my eyes. “I’m not worried. I’m proud of her. I’m excited for her big day today.”

“You’ve done it, you know?” he said as he set his cup down, his face turning completely serious, which wasn’t the norm for Cannon.
