Brit gulped before looking away. She wiped the lone tear that traveled down her cheek. “You overdosed, Christian. You had a seizure and didn’t have a pulse for a little while. If it wasn’t for Cara’s quick thinking, I don’t know what would have happened.”

Hearing that made my heart beat erratically in my chest. Now I understood Cara’s silence. I could only imagine what this had done to her mentally. I was also certain that she was probably out for blood.

“What happened once I got here?”

“Doc worked on you. They were able to pump the drugs from your stomach, and you’ve been in recovery ever since. You’ve been here two days.”

My eyes bucked. “I haven’t woken up in two days? Are they sure everything is okay?”

Brit grabbed my hand, soothing me. “Yes, baby. They’ve run a million tests to make sure you didn’t have any damage to your organs. Your body just needed rest after everything you went through. As a matter of fact, let me call Doc.”

Five minutes later, Doc walked into the room. He pretty much told me everything Brit just had. He also let me know that my headache and dry mouth were normal side effects. After checking my vitals, he left, but said he would be back later to check on me.

Once he was gone, Brit caressed my face. “Is there anything you need right now?”

“I’m starving,” I replied immediately. Once the shock of everything wore off, it felt like my stomach was touching my back.

Brit stood, grabbing her purse. “Okay, what do you want? I’ll go get it.” Her eyes darted to Blade and Cara. I knew this was her way of giving us privacy to talk. I was comfortable allowing her to leave because I knew for a fact Viper had brothers surrounding my room. She wouldn’t leave here alone. Once I told her what I wanted, she walked out the door.

“Cara,” I spoke softly. She still hadn’t looked at me since I first opened my eyes.

For a moment, she was silent. Then a strangled cry ripped from her throat. Blade pulled her closer, holding onto her. My vision blurred with tears as I heard the anguish coming from her. When she finally lifted her head, my stomach dropped as I saw her red-rimmed eyes.

“We almost lost you,” she said weakly. “I have saved hundreds of lives, and I almost lost one of the most important people in my life.”

“Wait, what?”

She began to explain how everything transpired. Knowing she was forced to watch me seize and perform CPR, I hated that. I knew her years of training with STF prepared her for these types of scenarios, but nothing would be able to mentally prepare you to deal with something like this with a loved one.

“This shit is crazy. Like what the fuck did she expect to gain from this? She was really going to try and what, rape me?”

“I don’t know where the little bitch’s head was at, and I don’t care. All I do know is the cops better find her before I do.” Cara's face was morphed into a chilling scowl.

I knew what I was about to ask her was going to piss her off, but I had to think about Brit. I wasn’t sure where her headspace was at, but I was sure she wouldn’t be okay with my sister killing hers. Normally, I wouldn’t care one way or the other. Morgan's ass would have been as good as gone.

“Cara, I need you to let the cops handle this. I’m only thinking of Brit and her grandmother. I know they would much rather see Morgan behind bars than dead. I know this might seem like a lot that I’m asking of you, but can you do that for me?”

She nodded her head, and I felt relieved. “You’re right. You are asking too much from me.”

I sighed heavily. “Cara, if the roles were reversed, I would do it for you.”

Blade looked at me like I was full of shit, and Cara let out an angry chuckle. “How soon we forget?”

“What?” I asked, confused.

“Did you or did you not fight Viper all those years ago when we thought he cheated?”

I dragged my palm down my face because she had my ass. When Viper first got with Cara, she caught him in his office with a naked club bunny. Candy had been giving Cara issues from the moment she arrived. The night before, they had nearly come to blows. It wasn’t what it seemed like, though. Candy had literally walked through that door five seconds before Cara. Viper hadn’t even had the chance to tell Candy to get the fuck out.

At the time, I was beyond reasoning. I didn’t even give him a chance to explain what happened. I warned him when he first pursued my sister that if he hurt her, I was going to come for his head. When Sara called and told me what happened, I was furious. All I knew was that he cheated and my sister left in tears, heartbroken. Once he revealed what really happened, I apologized. Viper didn’t even hold it against me. He knew where I was coming from.

Blade laughed lightly. “Yeah, she got you with that one.”

“I know,” I agreed in defeat. “I’m just trying to look out for Brit, though.”

“As her husband, that's your job. Mine is to protect those I love. And as much as I have grown closer to Brit, that won’t stop me from taking Morgan out. She should have thought about the consequences before she drugged you.”

I didn’t know where Morgan was hiding, but I hoped she stayed there. Cara would find her with quickness. She would never see her coming. All I could do was try to get Brit to convince her family to turn Morgan in. A jail cell would be the only thing that could protect her from the wrath of my sister.
