Before we could pass him, he waved his hand for us to stop. Cara turned the music down as he approached the truck. “Brit, I just wanted to give you a heads-up that your sister is at your house. She said your grandmother sent her to talk to you about something.”

My heart thundered in my chest. Instantly, I began to think the worse. My grandmother had been respecting my wishes of cutting Morgan, Myron and my mother off. If she sent Morgan here, something had to be wrong.

“Thanks for letting me know. Let’s go, Cara,” I said, my voice filled with urgency.

Once we pulled up in front of our home, Cara turned down the music. “Do you need help taking your stuff in?”

I shook my head. “No, I got it. Thanks, though. I’ll see y’all at dinner tonight at the clubhouse.” I jumped out of the truck and grabbed my bags from the bed of her truck. Making my way up the stairs, I pushed the front door open.

My heart dropped to my stomach at what I saw. My sister was straddling Christian on the couch, kissing all over his neck.

“What the fuck is this?!” I roared, throwing my bags down.

Morgan’s head popped up with a smirk. “Oh, hey, sis.” She had a devious smile on her face, like she was happy I caught them in the act.

I rushed over to them, ready to slap the shit out of her and him. I felt hurt, but my anger was overruling it all. Once I was closer, I noticed Christian’s eyes were closed. His head rested on the back of the sofa, and his mouth was partially open. He didn’t seem aware of anything that was going on.

“Christian!” I shouted, pushing Morgan off him. She hit the ground with a hard thud. Christian still hadn’t moved. I turned to her, seething. “What the fuck did you do to him?!”

Morgan glanced at Christian, and her smile dropped. Her face changed to horror when Christian remained unresponsive.

“Christian! Baby! Can you hear me?” Tears streamed down my face. The sound of the front door slamming caused me to look up. It was then that I realized Morgan had run out of the house. I didn’t have time to worry about her. My biggest concern was my husband. I palmed his cheek, softly tapping it with my hand. “Baby, wake up, please.”

The front door opened again, but this time it was his sisters. “Hey, why the hell did your sister run out of here like… Christian!” Cara screamed when she saw the state he was in. She hurried over and shifted his body so he was lying down. “What happened, Brit?”

“I don’t know. I came in and saw Morgan on top of him. It wasn’t until I got close enough to see he was out of it.”

Cara frantically searched the room until her eyes landed on the beer on the table. “Sof, go grab something out of the kitchen to put that into.” Sof ran into the kitchen while Cara turned the flashlight on her phone. She peeled Christian’s eyelids open, searching them. “Shit!” she hissed. “His pupils are blown. We need to take him to the hospital right now. Sara, you grab his legs. I got his upper body.”

I knew Cara and Sara used to work for the government and had extensive training in different fields, but watching them take control like this showed me a side of them I hadn’t seen before.

I watched as Cara and Sara effortlessly lifted his body. I opened the front door and ran to the truck.

“Open the bed, Brit,” Cara said. Once it was open, they slid his body inside, and jumped in the back. “Sof, call Madison and let her know what’s happened, and we’re on our way to the hospital. Bianca, drive.”

Bianca didn’t hesitate, jumping into the driver's seat and speeding out of the gate. I felt so helpless watching Cara speak to Christian, trying to get a response. All I could think about was why Morgan would pull something like this. What did she possibly think she would gain from this?

Did she hate me so much that she would really try to drug and rape my husband?

At first, I thought that Morgan's disdain came from petty jealousy, but now I was starting to believe something was really wrong with her. Like mentally. Only a deranged person would go this far. I snapped out of my thoughts when Christian’s body started to convulse.

“He’s seizing!” Cara shouted. She and Sara pushed him onto his side until it was over. What were minutes felt like hours until his body stopped jerking. Once it was over, they flipped him onto his back again. Cara shakily put her fingers to his neck. “No,” she whimpered. “He doesn’t have a pulse.”

“Christian!” I screamed, grabbing his face.

“Brit! I need you to stay calm. I’m going to start compressions. I need you to breathe into his mouth when I tell you to. Can you do that?”

I nodded as she placed her palms on his chest. She started, and everything moved like a huge blur. By the time we pulled up to the hospital, Madison and Doc were waiting outside with staff. Cara had tears streaming down her face.

“His pulse is weak, but it’s there. He was drugged. I’m not sure with what, but Sof has a container of beer he was drinking from,” she told Doc in a monotone voice.

“You did great, Cara. We’ll take it from here,” he replied as they wheeled the gurney inside.

I released a wail full of agony once he was out of my sight. Bianca ran over and wrapped her arms around me. She guided me into the waiting room, trying to give me words of encouragement. Nothing would work, though. Not until I saw Christian was fine.

A part of me wanted to hide once his family, along with the brothers, started showing up. My sister had caused this. Hell, my family had been nothing but a nuisance since Christian and I had gotten together. Now he was fighting for his life, and I couldn’t help but feel responsible. Had he not tied himself to me, none of this would be happening.

“Hey, don’t do that,” Crystal said, reaching over to pat my leg. “I see the look of guilt written all over your face. This is not your fault. Do you understand me?”
