“I most certainly am not. You were going to claim her and now throw me in her face? Hell no,” she snaps, and I grin wide.

“Did you miss the part when I said she was using me to get more money? Or how I wanted to claim her because I’d never love her?” I ask.

She retorts, “But can you honestly say she doesn’t love you?”

“Deep down, probably, but she loves money more,” I reply before I walk over to the box and open it, grab the leather, and then walk back to my girl.

I state, “Now, if she overdosed, then she needs a nurse. This nurse is not leaving this ring until she puts this on,” and I hold up the leather, but she shakes her head until she notices her nickname stitched and her eyes tear.

“When Cage, asked what name I wanted stitched on the breast pocket, I instantly said: Shortcake. You were always mine, baby, so what do you say, you going to be my old lady?”

Chapter 16

Blair

Linc revs his bike before going faster and I tighten my grip around his waist and squeeze my eyes tighter. I am trying my hardest not to fall off, I mean, don’t get me wrong, this is a thrill, it’s freeing I guess, but come on, my parents died in a plane accident. I’ve tried my hardest not to do anything that could get me killed.

He takes a turn sharply, I gasp as I grip his cut and shirt, and I feel his body shake. I pinch his stomach, knowing he’s laughing, which comes out as he grabs my hand and squeezes it tightly.

“Nearly there, baby, you’re doing well,” he chuckles, and I move my head and press my forehead against his back.

Seeing him hold up that leather, I’ll admit, I was pissed because I thought he was giving me the cut he ordered for her, until I saw the nickname.

He ordered it for me but didn’t let himself believe he did.

It’s safe to say, the man has burrowed himself into my heart, and the fact that I’m trusting him not only my heart but with a card with over a million dollars on it really says a lot. The same card my sister has demanded several times since last night, including demanding I move in with her and her rapist, cheating husband.

“I don’t care who that man was, I don’t care that he's part of that horrid biker group, you will dump him and move back in with us!”

Her delusional voicemail from last still has me rolling my eyes.

“I still took you in, I still had you in my home, feeding you, I deserve half of whatever fortune you were left!”

Linc slows down, and I move my head to the side, open my eyes, and watch the trailers pass us by.

She threatened to contest the will like she did all those years ago. She threatened to claim that I’m not of sound mind because of who I’ve chosen as a partner when hers is a monster. and I saved the three voicemails she left me and sent them to my parents' lawyer. He will report them because of the threatening nature – his words not mine – while I just continue to ignore the woman who should have looked after me but was too selfish and is now regretting her decisions.

I feel Linc come to a stop outside a yellow-tinted trailer, the grass overgrown, and I swallow hard as he gently rubs my hands Holding out his hand after he climbs off the bike, I gently take it before climbing off too. My legs are wobbling slightly causing me to tighten my grip on his hand and he chuckles, then wraps an arm around my waist and cups my cheek.

“Have I mentioned how fucking hot you look with my property patch on?” he murmurs, “Don’t get me started with feeling you on the back of my bike…”

I smile slightly before going up on my tiptoes and lightly kissing his lips, before I look at the trailer, and he hums.

“This is where I grew up,” he whispers, and I eye the water marks, the mold I can see from here framing the windows.

“You mean when you weren’t with Mama shaking your tooshie?” I ask, and he pokes my stomach, muttering, “Brat,” and I chuckle.

Sighing, he mentions, “After we do this with El, finally cutting her loose from my life, I was wondering if you’d help me pack the place up?”

I look at him to find his eyes already on me, intense, and I nod. He smiles, then kiss my lips, once, twice, three times, before pulling me with him across the grass.

“This trailer was Alexiana’s,” he murmurs, and I look at the light blue trailer and nod, seeing it’s now lived in, with flowers on the windowsills, plant pots near the door. “Alex’s mama owned it. Alex was kind enough to give the trailer to a man who slept on the streets.”

My heart softens at Alexiana’s softness, but I soon tense when we stop outside a trailer that was, by the looks of things, once white, with stains painted on the outside and needles littered in the overgrown grass along with used condom and beer bottles.

“This is Halsy’s and Elenor's trailer. They don’t own it, but El sleeps with the owner of the caravan site to keep it. Halsy wanted to go somewhere with her life, she wanted to become a teacher. While she is in community college, trying, El never had the urge to make herself better,” he murmurs and I look at him again to see his attention on me and he half smiles and admits, “I was going to see if she wanted my mom’s trailer until she can get out of the trailer park, what do you think?”

“I think that is a good idea,” I admit, because it is a good idea.
