“I have spoken to someone,” I say, and he replies, “Talking to your dog doesn’t count,” and I grin widely.

“Does too,” I sass back, making him chuckle, but he softens when I mention, “I spoke to you.”

“You did,” he murmurs softly as his eyes look over me before his phone rings again and he sighs, “Don’t stay here all day, you need rest before going back to work,” and I whisper, “Okay,” while he looks at me one last time then walks away, answering his phone with a, “Babe…” And my stomach tightens as I look down at my lap.

The rev of a bike gets my attention, and I look up to see Blaze’s eyes already on me. I give him a slight wave, and he nods back before he speeds off down the road. Suddenly, I feel cold again, alone, and everything makes it difficult to breathe with the realization that I don’t want.

“I think I like him, Mom. What do I do?”

Chapter 9

Blaze – A Week Later

I lean against the wall and eye the orange building, my body tense, the need to get eyes on Blair so fucking strong that I’m ready to run into the building.

Three weeks, I’ve only known her for three fucking weeks, and I’m obsessed, I know I am. Fuck, Crusher has mentioned several times that he doesn’t see me enough like a whiny girlfriend, though he thinks I’m with Elenor. I haven’t even touched her since meeting Blair, which says a fucking lot.

I haven’t touched any woman.

I chew on my bottom lip… I haven’t spoken to Blair in a week, not since getting that phone call.

“Yeah?” I answer my phone, not looking at the screen, while my eyes stay on the small headstone with just my mom's name and the date she died carved in.

When they asked if I wanted to put a message on it, I didn’t think druggie whore was appropriate. I don’t regret not putting a sweet message on the stone. I just don’t understand why I feel compelled to keep visiting her.

Maybe to ensure I don’t end up like her? I don’t fucking know.

“Blaze, sweetheart,” Ms. Hallows replies, and I stand up straight and frown.

“Is Blair okay?” is the first words out of my mouth, and I wince.

Fuck.

Okay, so after I said I’d sit outside Ms. Hallows home for the last time two weeks ago, it wasn't the last time. I’ve been out there every single fucking night, not able to stay away, all while Elenor blew my phone up demanding that I go see her.

“Hmm,” she says, making me wince again, before she says, “Against my better judgment, she went to the cemetery, and I’m worried…”

I frown as tingles rush through my body and I look up to see the woman herself slowly sitting down against a headstone, closing her eyes as she leans her head back, and I swallow hard at how fucking beautiful she is.

Fuck, I want her…

“She’s here,” I murmur, and Ms. Hallows sighs, “It’s her parents' death anniversary.”

My feet decide to move before my brain can catch up as she explains, “She still gets headaches, and she has decided to stay back at her house tonight. I don’t think that is a good idea, Blaze. Could you speak to her about it? Something tells me she may listen to you.”

“I’ll see what I can do,” I mutter before I hang up on the sweet woman and make my way over to a woman who is slowly taking over all my fucking senses and doesn’t even realize it.

I didn’t expect to see her at the cemetery. For weeks, I hadn’t spoken to her, only stalking her like it was the most natural thing in the world, but hearing the concern in her Mama's voice, my feet were moving before I could even realize what I was doing. Fuck, sitting there with her, listening to her open up to me…

My body is in tune with her, that much is a given, and three weeks later, I can’t seem to stay away.

My phone vibrates in my cut, and I ignore it as Blair walks out of Norman's accounting office with some dude in a suit who is checking out her ass in her skirt. I swallow my growl when she turns around, and he quickly looks up, giving her a professional smile.

She shakes his hand before he walks over to a Bentley, his eyes going back to her. She’s not looking at him, no, her eyes have connected with mine because she could feel my stare.

Tilting her head at me, she walks back into the building, but not without looking at me one more time before the door shuts. I look over to the guy who noticed where her attention went, and he flinches at my cold stare before getting in his fucking car and driving away before my eyes go back to the building.

It’s official, I’ve become her stalker, I can’t fucking help it, I feel compelled to be near her, but my fucked-up head won’t accept her. I won’t put her in a position to be with a fuck up like me.
