She’s new to Hollywood and wants to hit up all the instafamous spots. Originally from Montana, she’s got that easy charm and natural coolness casting directors eat up. She and Juno have been getting to know each other since they were both cast in that tv series filming in Italy, which I’m still incredibly jealous of, though I’m honestly so stoked for Junebug.

“You couldn’t have just picked brunch at the Beverly Hills Hotel like a normal person?” Juno wines.

Eloise grins, wiping sweat off her brow. “Where’s the fun in that?”

I give Juno a silent ha look. “I needed to get out of the house. I’ve been too cooped up lately.”

As we continue the climb, I pull out my phone and quickly turn off the notifications from my security camera app. It’s been going off nonstop since we left. One more alert about a leaf blowing across the driveway, and I might lose my mind.

Eloise glances at me, a sly smile playing on her lips. “You say that like it’s a bad thing. Being cooped up with Grayson Cole sounds like a literal dream.”

Juno shoots me a knowing smile as Eloise moves a few steps ahead, her pace steady on the dusty trail. The California sun catches in her nearly black hair, making it gleam.

Eloise adjusts the straps of her sports bra and pushes damp strands of hair from her face. “Anyway,” she says, glancing back at us, “what’s he like, anyway? Apart from being drop-dead gorgeous, of course.”

I school my grimace. I need to tread carefully. She obviously doesn’t know the truth. Juno, of course, beats me to it.

“Oh, she spends all her time with him,” she says smoothly.

My head turns toward her. “Excuse me?”

“What? I’m just saying, you two are practically attached at this point,” she continues, grinning. “Just admit it… You’re falling for him.”

I shoot her a sharp look. “I am absolutely not.”

Eloise perks up instantly. “Wait. You’re spending all this time together?”

I glare at Juno, who is very clearly enjoying this.

“We just end up in the same places a lot,” I say, grabbing my water bottle. “It’s not that deep.”

Eloise tilts her head, unconvinced. “Mm-hmm. Sure.”

Juno nudges her. “She’s in denial.”

I roll my eyes and take a long sip of water, mostly so I don’t have to answer.

“Still, you can’t tell me he’s not at least a little fun,” Eloise challenges.

I lower my bottle to my side, debating my answer. I can’t exactly say, Actually, he’s the single most maddening human I’ve ever met.

“He’s…something,” I say finally. I throw in a quick smile, as if I’m smitten with him.

Juno bites back a laugh.

Eloise raises an eyebrow. “Oh yeah. I bet he is.”

We reach the top of the hike, and the view is as breathtaking as always. Los Angeles stretches endlessly below us, rooftops and palm-lined streets spilling into the haze, the skyline faint in the distance beneath a pale blue sky.

“Damn.” Eloise exhales, hands on her hips. “Okay, yeah. This is so worth it.”

Juno tugs off her baseball cap, fanning herself. “Pain and suffering aside, this spot is elite.”

I take a deep breath, looking out over the city. I’ve done this hike more times than I can count, and somehow, it never gets old.

Juno pulls out her phone. “Come here. Let’s get a selfie.”

I give her a teasing look. “What, it didn’t happen unless it’s documented?”
