“Wild? Insane? Hard to handle?” I finished for Nate. “Jack and Grim won’t have an issue with her after keeping Sloane in line for so long… But Baylor will.”
“Elliott?”
“Yes, sir.”
Nate clapped his hands together. “Oh. I suddenly can’t wait to have dinner with the family. We’ll have everyone over the first Sunday in July.”
Freya snorted. “We’ve got to get you out of here first. Maybe make plans when you get home?”
“How do you even know what day it is?” I asked.
“You’re coming too. And it’s Thursday.” Nate shrugged as he pointed at my sister. “I’ve been counting. I wasn’t expecting Sloane to take her time, so I suppose she’s going to come in here and yell at me soon.”
“Please,” Amelia whispered. “Don’t say that to her.”
I cut my eyes at Nate. “I’m sure she’ll yell at you either way, but I do hope you say that to her. I can’t wait for her to tell you everything we’ve been through while you were sitting in here on your ass.”
Then I smiled at Amelia, turning the charm up to cushion the comment to her mate.
“We’ll be back to get you. We’re just going to plan some things out to cover our tracks.”
Thursday, June 18th
Early Morning
I was ready to pat myself on the back, even as rage simmered below the surface of my skin.
I didn’t kill anyone.
That felt like a major milestone to me.
And yet, it sucked.
I really wanted to slaughter the entire group of guards, but Vaughn was right. They didn’t deserve my wrath, not when they were only doing their jobs.
Today was a big deal, though I wasn’t sure if my guys knew that or not. We completed the last of our bonds, and Vaughn kicked my ass.
He’d really surprised me, but that shouldn’t have been the case.
I knew he was strong, capable... I just didn’t expect him to turn it around on me so fluidly.
Did that mean I was actually growing up?
I was an adult, yeah. Growing up as an adult was different, though. I was different, and so were my guys. All the shit we had gone through in the past month was insane, exhausting, and quite frankly, not fucking necessary.
But that proved my point.
Six weeks ago, I would have laughed in the faces of anyone who told me I’d have mates. I probably would have dropped to the ground, rolling in tears if they said I would make the conscious effort to not kill people.
A month ago, I wouldn’t have been here. I was more concerned with that drug... Which turned out to be a distraction, at best. It was a problem, that I knew. But stopping the drug wouldn’t stop the bigger problems.
We had to go to Alric for that.
Or he would come to us.
Us.
I used that word often, but it was time to start treating my mates like an us. This relationship, though strong, was in its early stages, and I didn’t want to ruin it by being a cunt.
