“What about you, Fae?” Briggs asked, redirecting the conversation off of him.

“When will you be removing your head from your anus and joining the rest of us in unholy matrimony?” I joked.

The vampire gagged. “Don’t call it that. None of us are married.”

Vaughn furrowed his brows. “You had a vampire bride at your vampire wedding…”

“No, we had a ceremony, just like Stone did. It’s not the same.”

The demon nodded his head. “So, mating for eternity is cool and all, but marriage still freaks you out?”

“I say this with the best intentions behind it, and I kind of feel like Trouble right now,” Novak glared at all of us. “But you guys are going to give me hives. Marriage is a big no. A hell no. And mating sounds animalistic. I’m not an animal.”

“You’re a fucking dog,” Briggs repeated. “I’ve said it a hundred times, and it’s still true.”

“Look, I’m not saying that I don’t lo—“ he coughed. “I care about her. I want to be with her.”

Palmer grinned at Novak, interrupting his explanation. “Too slow, Vampire. We all heard ya almost drop the L word.”

“Fuck,” Novak cursed under his breath. “Quick. Change the subject.”

“You’re ridiculous,” Vaughn informed him.

“I’m honest,” he shot back. “She knows. We talked about it.”

I was shocked. “You told her?”

The vampire nodded, his face serious. “Not without fucking first, but yeah, I told her.”

“See. A dog,” the shifter mumbled.

Novak cackled, holding his hands up in surrender. “No, no. That’s not what I meant. I swear. My exact words were I think I fucking love you too.”

“Too?” Palmer inquired, raising a single eyebrow as he propped his elbows on the table.

“Yeah,” Novak cautiously drawled.

“You got her to say it first?” I questioned.

He scratched at his chin. “Well, I overheard her thoughts, and then I coaxed her into admitting her feelings aloud.”

“And she didn’t stab you?” I continued, smirking at him.

The vampire shrugged. “We were in her closet.”

“If you think there are no weapons in there, then you really are a patsy,” I confirmed, grimacing at him.

“What the fuck does that mean?” he asked in exasperation.

“Gullible, the butt of a joke,” I held my hand out, presenting him with definitions. “There’s a few others, but I’m pretty sure that’s what Hyde meant.”

He shook his head. “I didn’t even hear a joke.”

I chuckled at the vampire, but the rest of them looked confused too. “Fuck. You guys didn’t hear them? Sloane said a little pinch, and they all want to cry, and Hyde basically called you gullible virgins.”

“The fuck?” Briggs whispered, offended by the insult.

“I don’t think I’ve been called a patsy before,” Palmer commented, squinting his eyes like that would help him search his memories.
