Then it turned out he was already married with another family in Delaware.

Armed with all the evidence, she confronted him and landed a right hook that a boxer would be proud of, breaking his jaw and busting his nose.

He brought charges against her of battery, mental abuse, grievous bodily harm and spying, and she was arrested and given a restraining order.

Goodbye police academy.

“Seriously though, Sophie. You must be more careful. Next time, you can invite me to Jason’s penthouse. I bet it’s off the scale.”

“It is.”

I shake off my guilt concerning Jason. It has only increased throughout the day, and I am still nervous about seeing him tonight. The mark on my neck, the betrayal in my heart and the fact I won’t say a word because I want him so badly. I am a bitch. I am my inner bitch and probably my soul wears a t-shirt with the biggest bitch on the planet in sparkly letters across the chest and back.

“Tell me about the twins.”

I struggle to bring some normality to my life.

“Feral.” She rolls her eyes. “Thank God for moms.”

“What about your love life?”

“What is that?”

She smiles sadly. “I don’t get to meet men. Other than the jerks who hit on me in the restaurant.”

“Are you still having problems with Damian?”

“And his brother.”

“You should change jobs.”

“And I should also find me a rich billionaire to take me away from all of this.”

“I can help you; you know I would.”

I smile reassuringly, and her gaze is fierce.

“I don’t want your money, only your ear to bash. Plus, I need a friend more than I need a man, and that will never change.”

Her expression softens. “I appreciate the offer, though. It means a lot.”

She glances past me to the guy at the door and sighs. “I would make an exception for him, though. He really is seriously hot.”

I hold up my phone and reverse the camera and zoom in.

The guy is as described—seriously hot! He has light blond hair cut in a buzz cut. He is tanned with clear blue eyes that make my heart skip a beat. They are not the same though. Angel’s eyes are even brighter.

He is obviously into the gym because his arms are stacked. The shirt he is wearing stretches over his chest like a lustful date, and he appears almost military as he scans the room while pretending to be studying his phone.

Special ops perhaps. I wouldn’t be surprised.

“I see what you mean.”

She grins. “Hands off, I saw him first.”

After one lingering glance at the guy, she sighs. “I should go. Mom has Bridge at seven, and I promised I’d be back by six thirty. What about you? Please don’t tell me you’re walking from here.”

“Why not?”
