Pulling some dark glasses over my eyes and wrapping my head in a silk scarf, I don’t look back as I take the elevator to the underground car park. Fuck waiting here for the creepy guy to call. I’m going to the one place I’m safe. My best friend’s apartment.
CHAPTER 8
ANGEL
The mood is ominous; then again, it nearly always is.
I barely had time to strip off one identity before donning the next before 7pm.
It was a fruitful meeting. Power Tech is now richer by twelve million dollars per year with the opportunity to double that. Their sister company is also interested if the technology works, and I have no doubt that it will. The sister company is three times the size, which means with a small discount, thirty million dollars could soon be added to that sum.
It leaves me cold.
The thrill of netting millions got old when they turned into billions.
I meet the others in the crypt as usual, and at exactly one minute past seven, we are all in place. The mood is tense, ominous because the Wild Angels sensed from my text that something has happened. We don’t meet unless it has.
“I’m sure you’ve heard that Giovanni Corloni was murdered.”
They nod, and I waste no time.
“Sophie Clere sent another text wanting to meet.”
“You met with her last night. What happened?”
Titan smirks, but I brush it off.
“She wants our assistance to kill her father’s murderer.”
That wiped their smirks because they collectively sit up and take notice.
“Her family is dead?”
Havoc sounds confused.
“Her real family is not the one she lived with growing up. Her birth mother and father were Violet and Oscar Malone.”
I don’t need to elaborate. My men know the significance of those names, and there is a tense silence as they wait for me to speak. No messing around, no quick remarks, just business.
“Gabriel has been informed, and we await his instruction. But this latest text probably has nothing to do with that.”
My gaze lands on every single member of the committee, finally resting on Ghost.
“Go and find out what she wants.”
I’m unsure why it took a lot for me to say that. I don’t like how it hits me. Send Ghost in my place. Another Angel to mess with her mind.
“But keep your distance.”
Fuck! Why did I add that? I may as well have pissed on her to mark my territory.
Once again, nobody says anything, but they don’t have to. I sense their acceptance. Their interest even because I don’t add rules or caveats. Not before Sophie Clere.
They will be aware that something happened last night and I’m not prepared to deal with their knowing smirks, so I say testily, “She’s a mess. Giovanni hit on her last night and she turned him down. She must be feeling responsible for him showing up dead this morning.”
Ghost speaks first, ignoring what they really want to ask.
“What are your instructions?”
