One of the Harvey brothers is enough to deal with, but two glaring at me is more than my pay grade to deal with.
“I’ll make up the time. I promise.”
“You will.”
Frank huffs and nods toward the kitchen.
“Doria is working her ass off to cover you in there; say sorry to her.”
Why do I want to punch him in the face so badly? It’s a constant ache inside me whenever I breathe the same oxygen as both of them.
I’ve worked here for two years already and that is two years too long. I should have known they would be trouble. Even the way I was interviewed was a lesson in self-control, on all parts. Their gazes ripped through the smart top I was wearing, leaving me feeling stripped and vulnerable under their heavy gazes.
It never got any easier. A wayward hand on my butt, an elbow in my chest, hot breath on my neck and several close encounters as they squeezed past me in a non-existent small space. Their lecherous gazes at my cleavage and the promise of a raise if I was nice to them.
I knew what they wanted. They didn’t even care if they both had access. It’s only because I need this job so badly to support myself and my twins that I put up with it. The trouble is, there isn’t much work going around these parts and believe me, I’ve tried. So hard.
It’s getting unbearable now and today may well be the last straw.
‘Come and work for me.’
Sophie’s offer was mighty tempting, but I value our friendship too much to take her up on it. I would hate her to be my boss because she would be so sweet and accommodating. I doubt I’d have to work too hard, and she would pay me well over the going rate. I would feel like a charity case and my pride won’t let me accept that.
No. I will do this on my own and hope I don’t go down for double homicide in the process.
I head into the kitchen and Doria smiles. “Bad luck. I wish I’d called you and warned the despicable duo were in today.”
“It’s fine. My phone is on silent when I drive, anyway.”
I groan, pulling on my apron as the door chimes, alerting us to new customers heading through the door.
As I stumble out of the kitchen, my pulse spikes because the Lord in heaven has got something right today.
Two gorgeous guys, dressed as if they’re about to attend a modelling shoot, head through the door.
One is dressed in a dark navy suit, white shirt and pale blue tie, his sunglasses lingering in his fingers as he drops them from his perfect brown hair. His eyes are dark, and appear to hide many secrets given how they gleam as he stares around him as if searching for danger. His jaw is angular, clean shaven, and yet he appears weary.
The man beside him is dressed more casually. His hair is darker, a little longer and flops over his eyes, causing an irresistible urge in me to spring forward and push it back in place. He removes black glasses that match his black button down top and beige chinos. A playboy for sure, reeking of money and success.
I swallow hard as I approach with caution because they have the ability to make me lose my cool in seconds. Man, I need to get laid and fast because I am already fantasizing about what fun I would have with both of them.
As I take a deep breath to control myself, a violent shove sends me stumbling toward them and Damian hisses, “Do your fucking job.”
I almost collide with the casual one and am mortified when he reaches out and steadies me. His aftershave wafts through my senses as he catches me and his husky whisper sends my heart into freefall.
“Hey, I’ve got you.”
I raise my eyes and wish I hadn’t because his power down into mine and his sexy smile causes me to blush.
I never blush.
“I’m, I’m–”
How do I speak? What words should I use?
He chuckles softly.
“A table for two if you’ve got one, angel.”
