One month later

It’s been a long night.

“Fuck.”

Havoc’s low growl says it all perfectly.

“Who do you think was responsible?”

I shrug, staring at the body swinging from the beam.

“Do you suppose it was suicide?”

Titan attempts to tick that one off the list, but I note the bruises on his neck and face, almost certainly on his body.

“No.”

The wind whips through the open door, darkness retreating as the day takes charge.

“I’ll call it in.”

Ghost takes charge and I nod, a sense of foreboding resting on my soul like a hazard warning.

“Martinez?”

Zac asks, and I shake my head.

“I heard he was back in Cuba, regrouping after the Romanos set fire to his wish to control Miami. He’s back in his box, for now, anyway.”

“Then who?”

Ghost sounds as mystified as I am.

“Put out word we want a name.”

I turn to Titan. “It may be nothing, but we don’t want to take any chances.”

He nods, already on it, and as the dawn breaks, I sigh.

“We should be heading back. We can’t be seen here.”

As we leave Sam Goodman swinging from his garage roof, a sense of unease rides with me.

We were here to tie up a loose end. We had information he was the man running the people trafficking ring, not Martinez, as I first thought. That night on the boat solved many mysteries and thanks to Gosia, we had a window into that world. She works for me now, in one of my offices in town. Filing and general admin duties as she works her way up the ladder. Her papers are in order. She has a green card, a new apartment and a life. I pay her well and we regularly take coffee together, where she makes for an interesting conversation.

She told me about Sam Goodman. Hiding behind his respectable job as a producer while running a trade on women all over the world. He mainly supplied them to the Arab states, but was spreading his operation to Hollywood.

Now he is dead and not by our hand. The shit is bound to hit the proverbial fan now.

I can’t wait to pick through the fallout.

“Is your father home yet?”

Havoc asks as we prepare to ride and I shake my head. “He’s still in Europe. I don’t think he’s in a hurry to return, either.”

“But he’s still working?”

Titan arches his brow and I nod. “Of course. He’s meeting with several contacts on his journey and I’m guessing he’s in geek heaven right now.
