“It’s good to be here.”

I savor the moment. I waited two long years for this. The planning, the design, the endless meetings with the manufacturers and now it’s my reality.

My pride and joy.

My princess.

“She’s a beautiful boat, sir. Handles like a dream, according to the captain.”

“That’s good to hear.”

I take another mouthful and ask, “Is Gosia okay? She was very brave to jump from the other boat.”

“Tina is with her, sir. She will bring her here when she is ready.”

“Good.”

I’m distracted when Sophie appears like a vision on deck, wearing a similar robe to mine, her hair damp, and her face flushed. My heart races as I feast my eyes on her, admiring her beauty, bravery, and soul.

“Ma’am.”

Marcus nods respectfully.

“May I fix you a medicinal whiskey?”

She sits beside me and smiles at him.

“Medicinal?”

He nods. “I believe it cures all ills.”

“Then I will trust you and accept your kind offering.”

He pours her a glass and, as her fingers wrap around it, she turns to me and smiles.

“Thank you.”

“You don’t need to thank me, Sophie. What happened was out of our control.”

“I wonder what will happen next?”

I hate the anxiety in her soft smile and reach for her hand.

“Nothing will happen. We carry on. You finish your movie; I get back to business and life will go on as if tonight never happened.”

“Are you sure about that?”

Her eyes sparkle and my mouth dries. I want to kiss her so badly. I can’t resist her. I never could and she whispers, “Our conversation in the car on the way to the party.”

“The masked man?”

“Yes.”

She sighs.

“I don’t want him anymore, Jason.”

“What do you want?”
