Moon hesitated. “The stronger the bond becomes, the more stable the carrier is.”

Chris’s gaze shifted between Moon and Mayhem. “And the more danger Moon is in.”

“Yes.” Mayhem’s hand tightened around hers.

Chris’s expression hardened. “Then he stays away from her.”

“No,” Mayhem said. Moon turned, and he looked at her. “I mean, yes.”

“You just said no,” Moon said.

“I don’t like her telling me what to do,” Mayhem admitted.

Chris snorted. “Get used to it.”

Moon pulled her hand from Mayhem’s, and immediately, his monitor changed. Everyone heard it. The heart rate increased, and the black veins darkened.

Chris straightened. “Grab him again.” Mayhem grinned, and Moon sighed as she took his hand. The monitor settled again. Chris stared at their joined hands. “Well, shit.”

“Exactly,” Moon said.

“So separating you isn’t an option,” Chris said.

“No,” Moon agreed. Mayhem looked entirely too satisfied, and Moon elbowed him.

“Ow,” he growled. “Why did you do that?”

“Oh, don’t be a baby. You’ve been stabbed repeatedly,” she said.

“That doesn’t mean your elbow doesn’t hurt,” he said.

Tempest ignored them. “What about the message?”

Moon showed everyone the journal, and Chris moved beside her. “Silver Healer,” she read. “That you?”

“I don't know,” Moon said.

“Your wolf is silver,” Tempest said.

“So are other wolves,” Moon countered.

“You’re a healer,” Chris said.

“Lots of wolves are healers.”

Chris looked at her. “You really going to make me say it?”

Moon frowned. “Say what?”

“You're different,” Chris said. Moon stiffened, and Chris noticed. She softened her voice. “That isn't an insult.”

“I know it’s not,” Moon said.

“You see things before they happen,” Chris said, as though explaining her comment.

“Sometimes,” Moon said with a shrug.

“You feel danger before anyone else,” Chris added. “And you knew something was wrong tonight before Tempest brought Mayhem in.” Moon glanced at her Prez, and Tempest nodded. Chris continued. “And now you're sharing visions with him.” Moon looked at Mayhem, noting that he was watching her quietly. Chris tapped the journal. “What if your grandmother knew exactly what you were?”
