Who was I kidding? I was uncultured.

“Thanks,” I whispered.

He took a sip, green eyes watching me over the rim.

“Well, we’ll see you tomorrow,” Asher said, hugging Kaia’s waist. “Unless you need me for anything else now?”

“No, don’t worry. I’ve got enough content to post.”

Asher and Kaia left. Next to me, Alejandro scrolled through his phone, nodding. “Ten thousand likes and three hundred comments already. Not bad at all.”

“Thanks,” I mumbled into my flute before taking a tiny sip of the crisp, lightly fruity drink. I wanted to enjoy it and everything else this place had to offer. Who knew when I’d get another chance? Probably never if my contract ended in two weeks. I shoved the thought aside as a stunning dark-haired woman approached, her vivid blue eyes fixed on Alejandro.

“Ale.” She beamed. The greeting was followed by two kisses where her lips actually grazed his cheeks.

Jealousy stirred in my stomach. Not because of how good she looked in her pink pantsuit and heels, but because of her confidence. She carried herself with an air of self-assurance I only wished I possessed.

“Cris,” Ale said warmly. “Te presento a Nova. Nova, Cris manages my agency in Spain. Handles most of the things I can’t do from the States.”

So, they worked together. That explained the familiarity.

“Nice to meet you,” I said.

“Likewise.” Cris air-kissed my cheeks. Her gaze slid over me in a slow appraisal, then snapped back to him.

She said something in rapid-fire Spanish, too fast for me to understand with my limited knowledge of the language, and Alejandro nodded.

“There’s a party at a nightclub we’re invited to later,” he said to me. Cris offered me a smile and squeezed his arm affectionately before sauntering off to a well-dressed group gathered by the gear display.

A party? My stomach sank. I’d have to wear the same clothes because I didn’t have anything fitting.

“It’s not work.” Alejandro tapped his fingers on the glass. “But I think you’ll like the place.”

The discomfort grew. A party with well-dressed people I didn’t know. Speaking a language I didn’t understand. Maybe if I had something appropriate to wear, I’d consider going. My new job was all about networking, and once upon a time, I enjoyed meeting new people and mingling. My current awkward, poor version was terrified of the spotlight.

“To be honest, I’m a bit tired,” I said. “Would you mind if I go back to the hotel?”

Hesitation flickered in Alejandro’s eyes, but finally, he nodded. “No. I’m going there first, too. Let me say goodbye, then we’ll leave.”

He approached Cris. Her face lit up at the sight of him.

Were they more than friends? The same odd feeling in my stomach returned, and I looked away.

He was hot. He didn’t wear a ring, and he’d never mentioned a girlfriend.

Alejandro could have any woman in this room if he wanted to.

I shouldn’t care about that at all.

And I shouldn’t forget that he was my boss, and I needed my job way more than he needed me.

CHAPTER EIGHT

Nova

August

It took some persuasion on my part, but eventually I convinced Alejandro I’d be fine on my own.
