I giggled. “More food?”
Alejandro wrapped an arm around my shoulders, chuckling. “Yeah, I know. But wine is okay, right?”
“The rest is too. Thank you.”
He poured wine into our glasses, then sat in a chair and pulled me onto his lap. “Did you have a good time today?”
“The best.” I toyed with his chain. “Your family is so nice.”
He brushed the back of his hand over my cheek. “See? You had nothing to worry about.”
“I know.” I sighed. “But I’m glad they seem to like me, anyway.”
He handed me my drink. “They more than like you. Dad was already talking about Christmas gifts. Mom asked me what you liked. I’m sure she’ll ask you tomorrow as well.”
I took a sip. “Fernando said they want you to have kids. Do you want them?”
A corner of Ale’s lips tugged up as he swirled the wine in his glass. “That’s not only up to me, don’t you think?”
I outlined the shape of his mouth. “But do you?”
He trapped my fingers between his teeth, biting gently, then released them and covered them with his. “If that’s something you want.”
“But what about what you want?”
“What I don’t want—” He rubbed my jaw with his thumb. “Is to make you feel pressured. And I don’t want to rush. If eventually we want children, we’ll have them. When the moment is right for us both.”
“I’d love to one day,” I admitted. “I can already see you’ll be a great dad.”
“I’d love to be a dad who can dedicate time to his family without making them lack the essential stuff. There’s only us, Nova. Only we decide what’s right for us and when. Being with you and loving you is enough.”
A gust of cool wind blew, and I pressed myself to him tighter.
Alejandro kissed my shoulder. “Want me to start the fire, or you’d rather head inside?”
“Inside,” I said. “I want to see what’s in there.”
He took another drink, then set the glass down. “Just a place I disappear to work when I’m home. It can get noisy in the house when everyone’s here, that’s why I built it a few years ago. Come on. We’ll take the wine inside.”
Alejandro unlocked the cabin and led me in. We crossed the tiny foyer and entered the bedroom. Moonlight filtered through the window. A neatly made bed stood propped against the wall. Across the room, a desk with Alejandro’s laptop on top and our suitcases on the floor beside it.
He set the wine on the desk and returned to my side.
“I turned on the heater,” he murmured, sliding his arms around my waist. His hand slipped under the hem of my sweater, and shivers blazed up and down my spine. “But it’ll take a bit to warm the room. I haven’t been here since December.”
“I love it.” I slid my hands up his forearms, up to the biceps bulging underneath his shirt, then to the broad expanse of his chest. “I’m glad we’re staying here. This way, I can have you all to myself.”
“Anything you’d love to do?”
“I know a few things.” My fingertips climbed his neck, then I sank them into his hair. “We could start with this.”
I covered his mouth with mine. His breath caught; his heart beat faster. He moaned into the kiss, lips parting, hands tugging my sweater up.
“Been dreaming about taking this off all night,” he rasped.
I nipped at his bottom lip. “Do it.”
I stopped kissing him just long enough to undress him, then he helped me get rid of my sweater and jeans. His lips returned to mine, then mapped a trail down to my neck, over my collarbone, to the tops of my breasts covered by a white lace bra.
