“Are you telling me you think I can’t handle feeding the gators on my own? I’m hurt.”

“Just saying, man.” He paused. “So what do you need?” Gideon asked.

“I told you what my prick of a grandfather said in his letter, right?”

“Yeah, that he had some answers regarding your mother’s murder, and maybe even something on how your dad died.”

Sebastian swung his feet over the side of the bed. “Yeah,” he gritted out.

“I’m taking it that’s not what happened?”

“Fuck no. Turns out he’s arranged for my reenlistment papers to be lost, and he’s already started a campaign for me to run for the state legislature.”

He really needed to leave the house. Go for a run or something. If not, he was going to break something.

“Sebastian, did you hear me?” Gideon asked.

“What?”

“Man, it was like I told you before, the police records were shit on your mother’s murder. They shit-canned that case. I was really hoping you were actually going to hear something from the old man, but since you aren’t, I have the name of a local private agency that might be able to help. They’re over in Mississippi.”

“Grandpère knows something,” Sebastian growled. “There’s not a doubt in my mind.”

“I’m still looking into that Etta Rose lead you gave me. Sex and shady deals go hand in hand.”

“You thinking blackmail?” Sebastian asked.

“Could be. I’ll see what shakes loose.”

“I appreciate it. I’m going to take off for a while. I’ll be in touch.”

He hung up and headed down the stairs to his SUV. Who gave a fuck what Grandpère and his cronies thought? He needed some room to think.
