This couldn’t be actually happening. Please God say it’s not happening.

Lisa looked at the man who had his hand around Cami’s bicep. She lowered her head and charged into his chest as she screamed, “Raiden!”

Hands grabbed at her, ripping at her hair.

“Raiden!” Now it just wasn’t her screaming, it was Cami too.

The man ripped Lisa off her feet and threw her into the back of the van. The door slid shut. She screamed Raiden’s name again. She looked around wildly. Even in the darkness, she didn’t see Cami, but she could be wrong.

“Cami, are you here?” she yelled.

“Shut her up!”

A fist hit the side of her head, then nothing.

Raiden pulled Cami up off the ground onto his thighs. Her head was bleeding.

“Call nine-one-one,” he shouted at the old lady who was rushing to him.

“Who were those men?” the lady shouted.

“Call nine-one-one,” he shouted again.

She looked into his eyes, nodded, then ran back to her house.

Cami’s eyelids fluttered up. “White van, Rainbow Landscape,” she whispered.

He looked down the street and saw nothing. His eyes went back to her as his fingers traced the back of her head. He found where her head had hit the pavement. He probed carefully. No fracture.

“I’m good,” she said.

“No, you’re not.”

“I am. Go after Lisa.”

“Police and ambulance are on their way,” the lady shouted out from her doorstep. Raiden gave her a chin tilt, then focused back on Cami.

“Help will be here soon.”

“Go after Lisa.”

“I will.”

Her hand reached up and grabbed his wrist. “Go help Lisa, they’ve got her!” Tears spilled from her eyes, tracking down her cheeks.

“I will, Cami, I promise.”

She slumped back and rested her head on his thigh. Raiden wiped his bloody hands off on his cargo shorts, then pulled his phone out of one of his pockets. He pulled up his recent contacts and got Harry on the line.

“Harry, Lisa has been kidnapped. I need you to stay on the line while I see if I can get our comm guy on. He’s overseas, but they shouldn’t be seeing action for another thirty-six hours.”

“Gotcha,” Harry answered.

Raiden stroked Cami’s hair as he looked down at her ashen face. The ambulance better get here pretty fucking quick.

He hit the keys to do a three-way call, then tried to patch in Kane.
