She owned a dress, and what a dress it was.
“Is this the kind of treatment the CEO of KMI used to give all of his mistresses?” A.J. asked as she strolled up to him. She made it a point to look around the lobby. It took Kane a long moment to even register what in the hell she had said—he was too busy taking in the black patent leather heels and electric blue fitted dress.
“Huh? Mistresses?”
“Did you do girlfriends, or did you set women up in apartments like the millionaires I read about in one of those girly romances. You know the ones. You give them jewels when you’re done with them. Diamond parting gifts.”
Kane snuck his arm around her waist and guided her toward a hallway that exited to an exquisite courtyard.
“What kind of books do you read, woman? Mistresses? Diamond parting gifts? You have one hell of an imagination.”
A.J. laughed.
Seriously, where the hell did she come up with this stuff? There weren’t books like that, were there?
“Where are you taking me? You made promises.”
“Wait for it,” he smiled.
“I have to be back early. Real early. Like five a.m. early.” She sighed.
Kane squeezed her waist and blew out a deep breath. “I know, Audrey, I have to leave at the ass crack of dawn too, so we’re making the most of our time together.” For the first time he noticed that she just had a medium-sized black patent leather purse and nothing else. “Didn’t you bring an overnight bag?”
“We just said this isn’t overnight. Anyway, everything I need is in my purse. Where are we going?” she asked again.
“You’re a tough case,” he laughed, as he stopped in front of a door that was adjacent to the pool. “We’re here.”
A.J. gasped when he opened the door. “I can’t tell what has me more impressed, the size of this room, or the mound of desserts on that table.”
“Good thing the room has toiletries, since you didn’t bring anything else with you.”
“Who says I didn’t bring the essentials?” A.J. opened up the big gold clasp of her purse and pulled out toothpaste, a toothbrush and a bit of black lace. Were they panties or a thong? “I’m covered,” she purred. She dropped the purse and the items on an ottoman and made her way over to the dessert table.
“I’m going to eat. I’m starving.”
Her finger twirled through the meringue on the pie, making every muscle in his body harden. He didn’t want to look away, but he couldn’t stop himself from bending to pick up the frothy piece of black lace from the ottoman. It was a thong.
Holy Mother of God.
He looked up. She was sucking the meringue off her middle finger.
He pounced.
“Kane,” she wailed as he picked her up in a fireman’s hold and stalked across the suite’s living room toward the master bedroom. “I’m hungry.”
“So am I.”
“If you don’t feed me, I won’t be much of a participant.”
“I’ll do all of the work this round, then I’ll feed you,” he promised.
He dropped her into the middle of the bed. He knew it was soft and gentle because he’d tested it earlier. A.J. looked like a sex goddess spread out before him. He ran his hands down her right calf and slipped off her right shoe.
“Your legs are gorgeous.” Kane took off her left shoe and stroked both hands upwards and took care to caress the back of her knees. A.J.’s eyelids fluttered. She liked that.
Good to know.
