“Think about it!” she called to me on her way out.

I had been thinking about it. I thought about the weight of Logan’s hands on me all week. I definitely shouldn’t fantasize about him or where else he could put his mouth.

Damn, Veronica and Mari were right. I needed to get laid.

I glanced at the card on the desk warily. Then I picked up my phone and scrolled until I found Logan’s number.

ME: Thanks for the flowers. I like Mexican food.

LOGAN: I know just the place. You free tonight?

Tonight? He had to be kidding me! My phone beeped with another message before I could answer.

LOGAN: Mari already said she’ll watch both the kids.

I chewed on my lip. I should say no. I already felt bad he agreed to let Mari watch both Liam and Rosie together. Especially since I didn’t pay her, and he did. I had talked to him about it when I brought over the crib from Mari’s apartment. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t taking advantage of his kindness.

My phone vibrated against the desk again.

LOGAN: Come on. Have dinner with me and a kid-free evening.

I stared down at my phone and mulled over the options. A kid-free evening sounded amazing. Seth flaked on me again last weekend, so it would be fun to have a night off. That made me sound horrible. I loved Rosie, but sometimes a mama needed a break. Last time I had one of those, Logan kissed me.

I couldn’t let that happen again. Tonight was merely a thank you dinner for helping him out of a huge bind. That was all. We’d have a nice adult conversation with yummy food, and that was it.

I picked up my phone and texted him back.

ME: Okay, tell me when and where.

LOGAN: I’ll pick you up at 7.

Hmm. That sounded an awful lot like a date. But it wasn’t a date. Definitely not.

After I got the bulk of my work done, I raced home to take a shower and change for my non-date.

Mom was getting home from work while I was in the bathroom curling the ends of my hair. I was kidding myself by pretending dinner with Logan didn’t seem like a date, but if I was going to go out, I wanted to make tonight count.

“Are you going out?” Mom asked when she found me sliding lipstick across my lips.

“I’m getting dinner with a friend.”

She studied me for a second. “What friend?”

“The one I babysat for. The one I helped Mari get a job with.”

“Mmmhmm.”

I unplugged the curling iron and told myself to take a breath before saying what was really on my mind. “We’re just friends.”

“You said that about Seth.”

I sighed. “I said that because you didn’t like him, and I was trying to warm you up to him.”

“Well…I was right. Where’s Rosie?”

“Mari has her. She’s fine.”

“Mmmhmm,” she said noncommittally and then walked away.
