“I thought it was a swimming pool," Kira queried.
“It is. A coastal one.”
“That’s misleading.”
Nathaniel smiled and took her hand. It felt warm, and not cold like she’d once expected; she didn’t protest as his long slender fingers intertwined with hers.
“Come on,” he said, a note of eagerness in his voice.
His excitement was infectious as they stepped through the archway together. Kira gasped as the smell of fresh air and saltwater hit her senses. The sun-baked sand was deliciously warm on her bare feet, and the seagulls cried as they soared above.
As they approached the rocky outcrop, she recognised Victoria stretched out on a towel and sunbathing. She raised her head and grinned when she spotted them. “There you both are! Kira, come up here and join me. Nathaniel’s been hogging you for far too long. Leave your clothes.”
Kira glanced at Nathaniel.
“It’s up to you,” he offered, releasing her hand. “Do whatever you want to do. We’re here to relax.”
“I thought I was your ‘pet’.”
“That hasn’t changed,” he said. “But we’re not playing right now.”
She swallowed at the reminder. Less than an hour ago, he’d been inside her. Not all the way, but… enough that she’d had an earth-shattering orgasm. Enough that he’d filled her with his semen. It still coated her insides, making her feel self-conscious.
It also made her feel content in the weirdest way, giving her a sense of belonging on a beach full of relative strangers.
“Oh, yoo-hoo!” Victoria called to her. “Leave lover boy and come hang with us.”
Nathaniel gave no sign he’d heard Victoria. He took a step closer and caressed her face as if they were the only two people on the beach, his voice growing deeper. “I want you to enjoy yourself. I always want you to enjoy yourself.”
She shivered as she met his gaze but couldn’t help but give him a teasing smirk. “All right…lover boy,” she joked.
Nathaniel raised his eyebrows, his lips parting to respond, but he never got a word out. He froze when she stepped back from him, stripped off her blouse, and dropped it at his feet.
“I will enjoy myself,” she told him, tucking her thumbs into the waistband of her pants and sliding them down.
She straightened, tossing her hair back casually as if examining the rocky outcrop, but in reality, she was spying on Nathaniel from the corner of her eye. He hadn’t moved, except for the bob of his Adam’s apple as he swallowed hard.
“Bye then,” she said in a sultry voice, as she turned and walked away. She might have swayed her hips slightly more than usual as she stepped up the flat rocks. Victoria was gathered on the highest platform with her friends—all of whom were male.
“Come join me,” Victoria called, shooing Felix away and indicating the towel he’d been sitting on.
Kira sat down, staring at the cove from her new vantage point. It took her a moment to spot Nathaniel, standing some way away with a group of vampires. “This place is amazing.”
“Isn’t it? Make sure you go for a swim before you leave. The water’s warm.” Victoria sighed happily as she lay on her stomach on the towel, her head resting on her arms as she faced Kira.
Kira mimicked the posture.
“So? How are you liking Nathaniel?” Victoria asked.
“He’s…er…alright.” She did not want to commit to an answer when she didn’t know herself. She hadn’t had a chance to reflect on everything that had happened between them. It felt like days had passed since she’d last sat with Victoria and her friends by the dorm fireplace, but in reality, it had only been last night. “I suppose—”
“Shh, hold that thought. Check out the eye candy.” Victoria gestured at a group of male vampires by the shore who were stripping off their shirts and wading into the water. Nathaniel was easily one of the tallest, and his lean, muscled body took her breath away.
“You’re drooling,” Victoria joked, playfully swiping at Kira’s chin with her painted nails—rainbow today.
“I’m not drooling,” Kira said, but it was with great difficulty that she dragged her gaze back to Victoria.
“Whatever. But in all seriousness, is he treating you well?”
