The registry.
The ugly chair.
I had spent so long imagining Earth as a destination that I had not imagined Tuesday.
A job.
A schedule.
A life after reunion.
“I don’t know.”
“Would you want to remain Recovery Director?”
“Maybe.”
“From Earth?”
I laughed.
“You planning interstellar remote work?”
“I do not know what that is.”
“Of course you don’t.”
He waited.
I looked out the small viewport.
“What would you do on Earth?”
“Protect you.”
I glared.
He sighed.
“Visit.”
“Better.”
“Meet your family.”
My chest hurt.
“Eat food.”
“Important.”
“Determine why your mother believes height is a domestic qualification.”
I laughed.
“She’ll make you reach shelves.”
“I am a commander.”
