It’s a fucking big responsibility.

I close the notepad and look at her dead in the eye.

“Chloe Stoll, I believe one day you are going to be a rockstar.”

When I see you,

my heart stops beating

How can I live

when you’re right there?

All of my fear flies away

when you come to me

And kiss my lips

I’ve been waiting

every day of my life for you

Waiting for time to bring us together

Now that you’re mine, I can’t believe

That this is forever

I will be strong and brave for you

Because that’s what you deserve

Nothing will stand

between me and you

Our forever we will preserve

So come with me and let’s see

What our forever holds

If my life were a movie, it would be a tragic comedy.

You’ll start the movie with those typical nostalgia-driven shots of young me playing the guitar and singing into the microphone in my mom’s living room with my brother, trying to emulate the musicians I adored. You know those kinds of shots? The ones that are sepia-filtered in every kind of biographical movie? All gold and shining.

That would be my hopeful childhood.

And then, in this movie of my life, the director will suddenly cut to a cold and gray discount department franchise store with a dour adult me standing behind a till getting paid minimum wage. I bet the audience will laugh at that. The contrast between a happy and optimistic childhood and the harsh reality of having to work in some shitty store in my hometown, my dreams unfulfilled.

Yep. A tragic comedy.

Laugh at my misfortune.
